The Unknown

The ocean is a mysterious entity in itself. On one hand, there is a stunning teal, cerulean

blue on the surface that people enjoy spending time in, however, there are also dark sunken

waters that can seemingly never be reached by man. No man truly knows what lies in the great

depths of the ocean, nor what has or has yet to be seen. It is a cold deprecating space, with waves

and currents spiraling throughout, and preventing any form of life to access certain areas.

However, it is those certain areas, the unknown, that hold great depth and meaning. The

unknown is a fantastic void, that can prompt excitement and spontaneity. I​t is indisputably true

that the unknown is a figment that creates anxiety, consisting of the fear of not only the

unfamiliarity but also the potential failure and danger that comes with the price of knowledge.

Of course many deny the chance of taking a high risk, and thus stay with what they know and

keep to themselves. Nevertheless, in a contrasting way, the exploration of the unknown concepts

have brought forth extraordinary scientific, cultural, political, and personal developments to

today’s society. The unknown is a wonderful thing as it promotes excitement in everyday lives, it

allows the world to access new information that has yet to be learned, and it subjects us to new

environments that the people had yet to thrive in.

The unknown promotes excitement and changes in everyday lives, and this is blatantly

displayed through certain actions and choices. Every day on social media and in general, society

is coming towards bettering themselves and becoming more accepting of different communities

such as colored people, or the LGBTQ+ community, however, there will always and inevitably

be those who despise these communities and will go to extreme lengths to harm them. A brilliant

example of the unknown bringing forth spontaneity and enjoyment is with a popular beauty

influencer by the name of Nikki Tutorials. Nikki has been a part of the youtube community for

around 10 years. Everyone who has followed her adventure believed they knew everything about

her, however recently many fans were delighted to discover she is a transgendered woman. Nikki

took a leap of faith into the unknown. She had no idea whether she would receive admiration and

love or hate and discomfort. She made the decision to enlighten her community with something

unique and different and to enlighten herself. The community itself also had to go into the

unknown by watching her videos, unsure of how they would still feel about her after.

Another spectacular thing that has been brought up by the unknown is the knowledge of

the outside world we had yet to learn. The world is full of horrifying and amazing things we have

yet to see. However, we learn them every day thanks to those who willingly travel into the

unknown. An interesting example would be the Great Pyramids in Egypt. No one truly knows

how they came to be or how they were built. This is because, the way the stones were so

intricately cut and put into place, in modern society with the tools we have the pyramids still

should not be finished technically. People search every day within the tombs of kings and learn

hieroglyphics so they may discover the truths of how these ancient artifacts came to be. The

pyramids hold great secrets and treasures and the people strive to discover them. Society knows

if we discover how the Egyptians built the pyramids so quickly, we could drastically improve our

own engineering technique altogether.

One of the greatest things that the unknown can bring to us is the ability to subject

ourselves to new environments we had yet to be put into. A great example is referenced earlier.

The ocean and its mysterious ways. About 70% of earth’s surface is made up of water and 95%

of said water has yet to be explored. Every day, scientists and those who want to seek knowledge

test inventions that will allow them to discover unknown creatures or early ancestors of species

they had previously believed were extinct. Of course, technically, the ocean floor has been

mapped, however, only to a resolution of about 3-5 miles. People everywhere are willingly

subjecting their lives to learning more about what they have yet to know due to their yearning

desires. They desperately wish to know what lurks below the ocean’s surface and other places.

Obviously the human body can only withstand so much water, or pressure, however, due to new

technology and courageous civilians people are willingly putting their lives on the line to seek

the truth.

Of course, no great mystery comes without its downfalls. The unknown can be a

dangerous thing that can potentially cause death if something unfortunate occurs. However, the

reality of the situation is, thousands of people die every day to strange causes. Three times as

many people are born when one person dies. More will come, and more will avenge to seek the

truth that others worked so hard to discover.

Overall, the unknown is a fascinating topic that not everyone understands quite yet. There

is so much to be discovered and created due to the information collected by those who did go

seek for the unknown. The knowledge we consider common now would have yet to be

discovered without the contributions of those before us. The unknown is mysterious, dignified,

and tantalizing. No one truly knows what lies in the great beyond, and they never will if they

refuse to search. Overall, the unknown is truly a spectacular entity in itself. The world would

crumble without it, and society would be an endless match of survival of the fittest. The

unknown is a good thing, and this is because it creates enthusiasm and transformation, it allows

the world to learn more, and it pushes society to think and work in different environments,

emotionally, or physically.
