Design Problem Title: Proposed Multi-Storey Medical Arts Building with Outpatient Diagnostic
Facilities.

BACKGROUND

Philippines’ healthcare industry has seen increased activity and opportunities in the last few
years. While healthcare demand is still driven by traditional factors such as aging populations and
consequences of modern urban lifestyles that lead to increased incidences of disease, there are
other factors that are stimulating exciting growth and innovations1.

Filipino medical professionals are renowned across the world for their skills and brand of care.
This is Philippines’ strong advantage in the field of medical tourism that goes along with its
relatively affordable medical procedures compared to its neighbouring countries. This is
particularly true for dermatological and dental care that have attracted foreign visitors to the
country2.

While medical facilities in the country have shown vast improvement over the years, there
remains a lack for a building that exclusively houses professional medical offices wherein one
gets a procedure without the need for being admitted to stay for days, and that provides
comprehensive healthcare services so that one need not go from one location to another in order
to accomplish different out-patient procedures.

PROJECT DETAILS

You have been tasked to submit a design proposal of a Multi-Storey Medical Arts Building with
Outpatient Diagnostic Facilities that provides a broad spectrum of medical and wellness
specialties and state-of-the-art outpatient services in an ideal hotel-like environment for carrying
the highest level of patient care.
The proposed building will house between 300 to 350 physicians whose clinics will cater to
general medicine; multispecialty practice; aesthetics/cosmetic surgery; dermatology; ear, nose,
and throat; ophthalmology; cardiology; oncology; neurology; psychiatry; obstetrics and
gynecology; fertility; paediatrics; general surgery; orthopedics; urology; dentistry/orthodontics;
anti-aging; geriatric medicine; pain care management; and wellness and complementary
medicine, among others.

Support facilities such as diagnostic facilities, laboratories, therapeutic and physical rehabilitation
center, pharmacy, café and dining, essential hospital offices, function halls for product
endorsements and hospital events, ample parking space, and more are also to be considered.

The Site: Site is part of the proposed complex development3 in General Santos City, a 1st class
highly urbanized city in Soccsksargen (Region XII). Located in Mindanao, it is the southernmost
and 15th most populous city in the Philippines. See project site layout on next page.
