Marie Curie

She was born in Poland but her nationality is French. Since women's education was
forbidden, she secretly studied. That was when she moved to France to formalize
her studies. She went to study for a scholarship that paid for her studies but years
later she returned the money. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize. She
won a Nobel Prize in Physics and another in Chemistry. She made findings about
radioactivity. Also, she discovered two radioactive elements, polonium and radium.
After the tragic accident in which her husband, Pierre Curie, died, she began
teaching at the Sorbonne University, where she is also recognized for being the first
woman to do so. She participated in the Second World War proposing the use of
mobile radiography to help wounded soldiers. She caught a disease from exposure
to radioactivity and she dies at 66 because of this. Her remains were taken to the
Pantheon in Paris, thus becoming the first woman to be buried there.
