PRODUCT EVIDENCE
According to economics measurements in 2019, the primary sector picked up nationally,
which generates higher expectations for livestock development.
However, the opinion of small, medium and big cattle breeders agree of the same thing,
according to an interviewed rancher from Tabasco by Diario Presente in 2019, he said that
they have everything to produce, with high investment in their ranches, but the benefits
are lower everyday.

Great disadvantages are faced by breeders in Tabasco to achieve the sustainability of their
production systems. These are classified in four main disadvantages:
First global warming and climate change, decrease in value of cattle, lack of government
technical assistance and finally ilegal cattle importation in the south border of the country.
To obtain optimum results and achieve the greatest possible efficiency the modernization
of productive activities in cattle breeding is essential. This aspect must be based on
individual herd information to make the business profitable and sustainable over time. So
focusing on the modernization of factors, such as: Feed based on improved pastures,
strategic supplementation, administration of pastures, weight control, among others.
So each farmer will be able to have a growth, both in number of animals, earnings and
decrease of investments, when they change their mentality from traditional mode into
business mode.
J. Hudgins a successful cattle breeder in Texas said that ranchers have to start looking at
their ranchs as company or a business, not like hobby.
Below, some steps to be taken to update the livestock industry are showed here:
Cattle reception: When the animals arrive at the corral, first it’s recommended that they
remain in a clean area and only receive clean water so that the cattle can rehydrate.
Cattle weighing and identification: Next, each animal must be weighted and identified
with a numbered plastic earring applied in the ear and be marked with red-hot iron on the
animal’s back or leg.

Internal and external deworming: Once cattle are weighed, it’s recommended to carry out
internal deworming against gastrointestinal and pulmonary nematodes. Veterinaries said
that an animal can have good quality food and water and good genetic heritage, but
without deworming, it’s hard to develop right way.
Finally, feeding in the corral: The animals must receive 3 differents types of diets which
they must rotate based on the adaptation of the feeding to the rumen; these feeding
stages would be: first imitation stage, the transition stage and finally completion stage:
Initation stage: This stage should last for 8 days and consist of adapting the animals to the
corral and the rumen bacteria to the daily ration.
At this stage, the total ration must be made up of 75% fiber (oats, corn, barley) and the
remaining 25% of concentrated food.
Transition stage: This stage has a duration of 8 days and the total ration must consist of
50% fiber and 50% concentrated food.
Completion stage: When this stage is reached, it’s intended that there will already be a
total adaptation of ruminal bacteria to the diet.
The proportion of the diet would be, 15% of pastures and 85% concentrated food.
