The founding of Katipunan

July 7, 1892
Andres Bonifacio and his friends met secretly at Deodato Arellano’s house at No. 72 Azcarraga St.
Tondo Manila.

It was a Philippine revolutionary society founded by anti-Spanish colonialism Filipinos in Manila in
1892.

Fundamental Objectives

o The political goal was to completely separate the Philippines from Spain.

o The moral goal was to teach the Filipinos good manners, cleanliness, hygiene, fine morals, and
how to guard themselves against religious fanaticism.

o The civic goal was to encourage Filipinos to help themselves and to defend the poor and
oppressed.

Other objectives:
o To unite the Filipinos
o To fight for Philippine independence

The structure of the Katipunan

Three governing bodies:


-Kataastaasang Sanggunian (Supreme Council)
•President
•Fiscal
•Secretary
•Treasurer
•Comptroller or Interventor
-Sangguniang Bayan (Provincial Council)
-Sangguniang Balangay (Popular Council)

Sangguniang Hukuman (Judicial Council)


-it sat as a court of justice to pass judgment on any member who violated the rules of the society or to
mediate between quarreling brethren or factions.
