The World Health Organization, Uganda Country Office is looking for a
qualified and competent Ugandan national to fill the following vacant
position:
A. Functions
Under the supervision of the WHO Representative for Uganda, the
incumbent will serve as WHO focal point for Nutrition activities in
the country. This includes liaising with, and providing support to all
relevant government departments and institutions and in collaboration
with all agencies actively involved, assist the Ministry of Health to
plan, implement, monitor and evaluate evidence based Nutrition
interventions to improve maternal, infant and young child nutrition.
The incumbent is expected to:
1) Provide technical support for the development of a national
framework for strengthening and harmonizing the national
nutrition surveillance system that will be built on the existing
systems
2) Support the Ministry of Health in efforts of seeking multisectoral
collaboration, including Donors, for operationalization of the
nutrition surveillance system.
3) Support the effective coordination/integration of the nutrition
system into the national health information system
4) Support the development of capacity building training in nutrition
surveillance
5) Support the development of a system for timely availability and
use of information at all levels for decision making for program
improvements.
6) Work closely with a consultant evaluating the national nutritional
and food security status annually.
7) Support the consultant in the development of a proposal for
conducting food consumption and dietary pattern survey.
8) Provide ongoing support to finalize the report of the national
micronutrient survey carried out in 2012.
9) Provide support to Ministry of Health for the implementation of
detailed plan of CIDA assisted program in collaboration with focal
person at the Ministry of Health.
10) Support and monitor and evaluate implementation of the nutrition
surveillance system
11) Provide regular progress report on the implementation status of
the nutrition activities

• Excellent knowledge in nutrition programmes; proven competence
in appropriate training skills and/or epidemiological research;
ability to establish and maintain efficient working relationships’
• Excellent Knowledge and demonstrated ability to write technical
reports; ability to motivate and guide development of capacity
at national level; ability to carry out advocacy and communicate
nutrition messages.
D. Education and Professional Training
Essential: BSc or MSc Degree in Nutrition obtained from a
recognized institution.
Desirable: Postgraduate degree in Public Health or Epidemiology
and modern training skills would be an advantage.
E. Desirable skills and experience
Essential: At least 5 years’ experience in planning, implementing,
monitoring and supervision of nutrition activities at national level.
Desirable: Experience in working with bilateral or multilateral
Organizations at country level. Proven competency in
documentation of events and evaluation of programmes; data
organization and analysis, including application of appropriate
software for data analysis.
F. Languages required
Proficiency in written and spoken English; Knowledge of another
UN language would be an added advantage.
