1. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We are overwhelmed in all humbleness and gratefulness to acknowledge our depth to all those
who have helped us to put these ideas, well above the level of simplicity and into something
concrete.

We would like to express our special thanks of gratitude to Ar. Sirish Bhatt and Ar. Jharna Joshi
who gave me the golden opportunity to do this wonderful project on the topic "SETTLEMENT
AND VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE”, which also helped us in doing a lot of Research and came
to know about so many new things. We are really thankful to them.

Secondly, we would like to thank our parents and local people of the settlement who helped
us a lot in gathering different information, collecting data and guiding us from time to time in
making this project , despite of their busy schedules ,they gave us different ideas in making this
project unique.
2.ABSTRACT
In most developing countries it can be observed that with the modernization of the
building sector this traditional knowledge of smart and climate responsive design is
being lost. Instead the modern building design is dominated by universal architecture
hat neglects local climate conditions and traditional construction techniques and
materials. This report of vernacular architecture and its building elements in the
settlement analyses in a qualitative manner in which design strategies could be applied.
The visit to Phulbari gave us an insight about the vernacular architecture of Kavre
Bhanjyang.

This report discusses on the vernacular architecture of Bhaktapur focusing on the

Tachapal tole. The settlement study and study of vernacular building of the site is done
and thereby the study of the project is carried out in following manner so as to utilize the
time given to maximum extent with study of location, geography, culture and people
of the site the settlement patterns and landscape with study of plans, connectivity,
access and spaces.
