Answer the following questions in a clean sheet of bond paper. Explain your answers clearly and briefly.
Draw your answer from your study and understanding of the topic. Do not copy and paste. 50 points.

1. How does Geology differ from the other sciences, such as chemistry and physics?

For me geology differ from other sciences in way that most of the sciences can be applied or used
in studying geology. It is the reason why we can study and understand the past, which may help us to plan
and predict the future that allows us to make it better than we used before. Through geology we could able
to produce, facilitate and disseminate geological knowledge that society needs, those knowledge provides
us protection for the future hazards and risks from nature.

2. List three ways in which geologists can contribute to society.

Geologists can contribute in a sciety sustainable development, they develop and discover new
suitanable resources for the up coming generations. They study climate change that greatly affect the
society and warned everyone of what they need to change for the earth’s future. Geologists provides
society an energy that give us electricy, because majority of the electricity we use in our homes comes from
fossil fuels. They can prevent later disaster for providing us Geological Survey maps that locates faults,
resources, and other important details below the earth’s surface. Geologists maintains the quality of our
most important needs which is the water supplies that sustain human resources, water that grows our foods
and crops. They have so many contribution to our society and we should value each of their solutions that
benefit us.

3. What do you mean by the statement of James Hutton, a father of Modern Geology, “We are to examine
the construction of the present Earth, In order to understand the natural operations of time past”?

This statement means that we need to study the past to know how the earth formed and
developed, because it provides us systematic knowledge of construction of the present earth’s materiails
and their occurence, formation, streght, and uses. Knowing the underlying patterns in nature, we can
prevent the ricks anf hazards happened in the past that may happen to our future.

4. How does Geology relate to civil engineering, particularly, civil works?

The geology is related to civil engineering, particularly in civil works, because it enssure the safe
and econimical construction of the buildings, bridges, dams, and other civil works. Geology is the
necessary factor at present for major engineering construction projects. Through of the effects of these
irregularity on the structures, there are few examples with unimportant geological considerations which
create loss to both life and property. Geology and civil engineering should be stick together for the better
development and safe future.
5. Make a reaction paper about the video: Geology for Civil Engineers.

I watched the video entitled Geology for Civil Engineers. The video discussed the Geology,
importance of geology, and the branches of geology. In the video geology was defined and introduce the
father of the modern geology James Hutton that he stated “We are to examine the construction of the
present Earth, In order to understand the natural operations of time past”. The qoute make me think for a
second and gives me realization how important to study geology as a student of civil engineering. I learned
that geology is an essential part of construction and hazard analysis. The landslides, earthquake, and
tsunami can be located through the geological mapping, this excites me more about geology. I want to
acquired enough knowledge that I can use and share to help others. As one of the aspiring engineers of the
future I will expand my capability to apply all the information I have gained from the video to my study.
