STUDIO 100 AND ROVIO

Studio 100 and Rovio are quite similar. Both companies are in entertainment industry for
children and teenagers. They have similar business model and strategy. Although the growth
of Studio 100 was faster not only because of their core product but also because of new
products in the entertainment industry in many fields like licensing, comics, YouTube, theme
parks, video games etc.
Apart from all these similarities, there were many differences between these two companies
1) Focus: Rovio focused on the group of characters of Angry Birds only while Studio 100 had
several characters which were growing constantly. Rovio developed the number of their
characters but within a single theme which turned out to be risky for business.
2) Organizational Structure: Unlike Rovio, Studio 100 management team work closely with
creative team.
3) Strategy: Rovio was interested in increasing profits and on the other hand Studio 100 was
happy to work on new characters and come up with new ideas.
For marketing and development of the brand, Rovio attracted stars unlike any other company
in same field. Rovio was unstable by downsizing a 1/3 of all workers through financial
performance and because of this instead of developing ideas, selected workers will make
them work in some other company.
According to me Studio 100 is more successful because they have several projects, so they
don’t have to reply on one of them which reduces the risk of new product launch or
developing existing ones. Employee relations were better in Studio 100, Employees at Studio
100 had much more stability, creativity and motivation which are one of the key elements for
smooth workflow. Because of narrow focus of Rovio, rapid growth became short term and
during hard times they were not able to move on or come up with new ideas.
