As computers translate quickly and accurately, learning a foreign language is a waste of time?

Do you agree or disagree?

Nowadays it is essential to learn another language. It is no longer a waste of time as we used to think even

with the development of new technologies that allow accurate translations to be made learning new languages is an

investment for the future and also enriches social and cultural life. We live in a globalized world, living together

with people from all over the world, each with a different way of thinking and also different languages. This essay

will provide information that rejects the idea that learning a new language is a waste of time, providing examples

of some of the many benefits of learning a new language, such as becoming involved in other cultures, increasing

job opportunities and facilitating the learning of more languages.

One of the greatest benefits of learning a new language is greater employment opportunities. A person who

masters two or more languages will have a better chance of being elected to a job and not only that, but also that

the job is better because a bilingual person could occupy positions that only someone with a mastery of a certain

language can handle, this marks a clear advantage over people who only speak one language, it is also noteworthy

that extends the areas of work to various sectors such as tourism, industry and education, sectors where bilingual

people are required.

Similarly, learning a new language makes you see things differently, you open your mind to new cultures

different from your own. This allows you to know the different ways of thinking of other people from different

countries, allows you to have new experiences at an intellectual and social level allowing you to expand the vision

you have of the world around you. Without a doubt, getting involved with other cultures improves your

understanding of the world.

Finally, learning a second language will make it easier to learn other languages. There are many different

languages in the world but many of them share certain similarities in their grammatical structure, this makes it

easier to learn more languages after mastering the second, for example Spanish and Italian share many similarities

as well as Portuguese, so if you learn a second language you can get to learn a third that shares similarities with the

one you've already learned, even could share similarities with your mother tongue so it would be easier to learn.

In conclusion, learning new languages is not a waste of time, on the contrary, it is an investment for our

future that gives us many advantages in the labour, intellectual and social aspects. Mastering several languages will

always be something that will give us a plus as people and considering how important this is on an intellectual

level, there will always be the desire and interest to continue learning because we are human and it is in our nature

to hunger for knowledge.
