and building at stairwell bottom : 12.4 Pa

Critical Velocity : 1.524 m/s

4. Height Limit Check:

Maximum allowable pressure difference

between the stairwell and the building = 77.601 Pa

Height limit below which satisfactory

pressuriation is possible = 95.9 m

5. Calculations:
Abo Flow area between the building and outside per floor = 0.088 m2
Asb Flow area between stairwell and the building per floor = 0.032 m2

Q Flow rate of the pressurization air = 5.7713 m3/s (= 12229 cfm)

5.b Canadian stairwell pressurization:

In this system, an exterior stairwell door opens automatically uopn system activation. In addition, the lower
two floors will be considered opened, while the others doors will be considered closed.

I. Opened doors section:

Pressure difference at the bottom of the section = 12.4 Pa
Pressure difference at the top of the section = 16.747 Pa
Flow factor = 3.198 m/s
Open stairwell flow area = 0.9748 m2
Effective flow area = 0.0878 m2
Flow rate from this section = 0.5618 m3/s (= 1190.5 cfm)

II. Closed doors section:

Pressure difference at the bottom of the section = 18.97 Pa
Pressure difference at the top of the section = 92.826 Pa
Flow factor = 6.1437 m/s
Effective flow area = 0.032 m2
Flow rate from this section = 5.9238 m3/s (= 12552 cfm)

III. Exterior stairwell door:

Pressure difference at the exterior door
(~ at 1.5m height) = 15.201 Pa
Open exterior stairwell door effective flow area = 0.9748 m2
Flow rate from this section = 3.1891 m3/s (= 6757.3 cfm)

The total flow needed to pressurize the stairwell

at the above conditions is the sum of these three
separate flows = 0.5618 + 5.9238 + 3.1891
= 9.6747 m /s
