Rangoli: The Event of Colours

- By Rahul Shah

On January 28, 2019, USS conducted the preliminary round of a number of events to be held at
Anugoonj 2019 at the main campus. Amongst all the events hosted, the most fascinating and
captivating one was the Rangoli-making competition.

Rangoli originates from two words ‘Rang’ which means colors and ‘Holi’ which means
celebration. The competition was a perfect idea to resurrect the forgotten traditions and uniting
the diverse Indian customs. The students exhibited their flair in the art, boasting off the prettiest
Rangoli designs using geometric shapes, deity impressions and floral motifs. Multiple traditional
symbols and ritual observances prevalent in the country were elegantly depicted on the floor.
The colors spread on the floor might have appeared to be random at first sight but, indeed, spoke
stories which had relevance in everyone's lives.

The courtyard, where the event was held, got brimmed with vibrant energy and positivity.
Everyone participating there was deeply involved and passionate. The activity encouraged the
students to think and work creatively along with promoting artistic excellence. For the judges
who were perplexed by witnessing a number of alluring designs, it was an arduous task to choose
one.
Teams of Nirsha Mageshwaran and Rohit Jain from USBT and Sonam and Srishti from USCT
bagged the first and second winning positions, respectively.
