equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all Why Education is very important? • Education is so important because it is a part of our life. Education is important for the personal, social and economic development of the nation. Education is important to live with happiness and prosperity. Education empowers minds that will be able to conceive good thoughts and ideas. What is Quality Education? • A good Quality Education is one that provides all learners with capabilities they require to become economically productive, develop sustainable livelihoods, contribute to peaceful and democratic societies and enhance individual well-being. The learning outcomes that are required vary according to context but at the end of the basic education cycle must include threshold levels of literacy and numeracy, basic scientific knowledge and life skills including awareness and prevention of disease. Capacity development to improve the quality teachers and other education stakeholders is crucial throughout this process. A Quality Education: • Quality Education enables people to develop all of their attributes and skills to achieve their potential as human beings and members of society. • Quality Education is a human right and a public good. • Quality Education provides the foundation for equity in society. • Quality Education is one of the most basic public services. • Encourages students to question and to think critically about real world issues. • Nurtures creative problem-solving in order to encourage independent thinking and a sense of agency in the world. • Develops a sense of empathy and tolerance. • Demonstrates that doing is as important as knowing. • Teaches kids to think on a variety of scales, from the local to the global, and to make connections between what’s going on in their communities and what’s happening in the world (and vice versa). • Guides young people to identify and nurture their own unique talents and to refine and express these in multiple ways. • Helps students to express themselves confidently. Aim of the Quality Education • It also aims to provide equal access to affordable vocational training, and to eliminate gender and wealth disparities with the aim of achieving universal access to a quality higher education. In the words of the Delors Commission (UNESCO,1996): “Eucation is at the heart of both personal and community development; its mission is to enable each of us, without exception, to develop all our talents to the full and to realize our creative potential, including responsibility for our own lives and achievement of our personal aims.” PREPARED BY: FACTORES, Bradley LONGUI, Ana TOLENTINO, Kristine Valerie
