EDUCATION AIM

NURSING EDUCATION
INTRODUCTION
The “Education” has been derived from Latin words
“Educare” means to train, to bring, to nourish, and
to mould’
“Educere” `means to lead out’
so we can say that education is to bring up, to
developing and shaping up the individual talent and
his inner potentialities.

• Education is a process in which and by which the
knowledge, characters and behavior of the
human being are shaped and molded. 
• Education is lead to the enlightenment of
mankind.

• Imam Ghazali said that education is a process
which enable an individual to distinguish between
the true and false, the good and bad, the right
conduct and the evil doing.
• Aristotle said a education is process of creation of
sound mind in a sound body.

• Knowledge is essential for every human being.
• Knowledge is the aid to achieve life values.
• Knowledge builds up the mind and satisfies the
mental hunger.
• Through knowledge the communication and the
exchange of ideas and experience is possible.
• Knowledge is the building blocks of good
character and personality. 
INDIVIDUAL AIM
Education focuses on all round development of individuality
of the child. Only a good individual will become a good
citizen. Individuality is inevitable for ‘self expression’ and
‘self actualization’.

SOCIAL AIM
Man is a social being. No one is able to live without
the cooperation of the society. Education helps the
child to fit into the society and to satisfy the social
needs.
MORAL AIM
A man who is morally high is always adopts the
way which is desirable to the society. Education
cultivates truth, beauty and goodness in the mind
of the child which are the essence of morality.
CULTURAL AIM
Culture is an important part of society, and it can affect
the behavior of the individuals. Education helps to
preserve culture as well as to reform it in a new
acceptable manner.

and habits acquired by man as a member of society.”

VOCATIONAL AIM
It is a modern aim of education. Education helps to
achieve vocation to satisfy the primary needs of a
man (food, shelter and clothing). Vocational
education enables an individual to earn his
livelihood comfortably.

KNOWLEDGE AIM 
• Nursing education aims at imparting scientific
and up-to- date knowledge in the area of
biological, behavioural, social and medical
science.
• Nursing education’s primary focus is to inculcate
the appropriate nursing skills and the right
attitude among the student nurses.

for rendering intelligent and efficient nursing

LEADERSHIP AIM
• Nursing education aims at the preparation of nurses as
good leaders.

care but also to assess and monitor the quality of care.
• Nursing education prepares nurses to participate in
decision making and policy making with respect to health
matters.
• Nurses are educated to plan, organize and manage the
health care programmes of the country.

• A nurse should be trained to keep up the ethics and
standards in the profession.
• The nursing education system aims at educating a
nurse in a manner so as to enable the nurse to
develop appropriate skills and attitudes required for
the practice of the profession.
• The nurse in turn should aim to contribute for the
growth and development of her profession.
PERSONALITY
DEVELOPMENT AIM

• Nursing education also aims at contributing to


the all round development of the individual.
• The focus of nursing education system is to help
a nurse in developing positive personal attributes
such as self awareness, self direction and self
motivation.
NURSING RESEARCH
• Research opens the horizons for the growth of a
profession and nursing education aims at
preparing nurses to carry out research so as to
add to the body of knowledge by means of
scientific investigations.
DEMOCRATIC
CITIZENSHIP
• Nursing education includes values such as respect to
individuality, equality, toleration, co-operative living
and faith in change through persuasion.
SUMMARY
Education is a continuous lifelong process. The aim
of education is to provide direction to the process
of education. There are different aims of education
like social aim, vocational aim, cultural aim, moral
aim, spiritual aim, intellectual aim, etc.
