SUMMARY
In this research, it will be shown how coagulation helps improve the processes to
remove or eliminate suspended particles (colloids) and organic matter, which can cause
odor, taste and even turbidity problems, the process used will be the jar test, to know
what is the quantity that will be more efficient in mixing the coagulant with water, and
quickly produce the floc.
INTRODUCTION
The jar test is one of the most used methods to prepare the exact measurement for the
coagulant application, although there are different formulas on the market to remove
particles from the water, in this case ferric chloride, and aluminum sulfate, the which are
some of the fastest to react and produce the floc, the pH, acidity and turbidity of the
sample will also be taken into account.
RESULTS
With the two compounds we find that the differences are in the duration of the reaction,
the aluminum sulfate, although it was not prepared in the same concentration of the
ferric chloride, reacts the same or faster, in addition that it is quite economical and
works well in the results as turbidity, pH is why most treatment plants use this coagulant
(aluminum sulfate).
DISCUSSION
This coagulation process is one of the most important, but in some parts of the country
other coagulation methods are used, such as the use of cacti, cassava starch, among
other ways, to remove solids, and see the water with a presentation better than seeing it
dark or muddy.
These artisan methods can cause damage to health and the environment.
