Certi cates for courses completed before September 2015 are in PDF format.
Note
Not all courses offer certi cates. In the past, edX also offered honor code certi cates,
which are no longer available. If you earned an honor code certi cate in the past, you can
still access your certi cate through your dashboard. For more information, see News
About edX Certi cates .
Additionally, some edX courses offer academic credit. The requirements and steps for
earning certi cates in these courses are different. For more information, see Taking a
Course for Academic Credit.

Most, but not all, courses on edx.org offer veri ed tracks of study, from which you can earn
veri ed certi cates. For more information about the bene ts of veri ed certi cates, and to see
an example of a veri ed certi cate, see Veri ed Certi cates . For a list of all courses that offer
veri ed certi cates, see the edX course catalog .
To earn a veri ed certi cate from an edX course, you enroll in or upgrade to the veri ed track
in the course, pay the certi cate fee, verify your identity using a webcam and a photo ID, and
earn a passing grade.
The name that you entered as your full name when you created your account.
To verify or change your full name before your certi cate is issued, check your account
settings.
The names and signatures of one or more members of the course team.
The date, in universal coordinated time (UTC), when the certi cate was issued.
A URL that others can visit to verify the authenticity of the certi cate.
Note
Veri ed certi cates do not include your nal grade in the course or the number of credit
hours that a university might offer for the course. Your nal grade appears on your
Progress page and on your dashboard. If you need a record of your grade, you can print
your Progress page or dashboard.

Certi cates for programs (such as MicroMasters , Professional Certi cate , or XSeries )
show that you have successfully earned a veri ed certi cate for each course in the program.
The name that you entered as your full name when you created your account.
To verify or change your full name before your certi cate is issued, check your account
settings.

A certi cate ID that others can use to validate the certi cate.

You can access a veri ed certi cate as soon as course certi cates become available.
For instructor-paced courses, the date when certi cates will become available is visible
under Certi cate Available in the right pane on the Course page. Usually, certi cates will
be available 48 hours after the course end date.
For most self-paced courses, your certi cate becomes available when you complete
enough of the course, with a high enough grade, to qualify for a certi cate.
When your course certi cate becomes available, View Certi cate options are visible on your
dashboard and the course Progress page. Select View Certi cate to open the certi cate in
your browser.
The certi cates that you have earned are also displayed on your Pro le page.

11.2.2. Receiving a Certi cate for a Program
You automatically receive a certi cate for programs (such as MicroMasters , Professional
Certi cate or XSeries ) after you earn veri ed certi cates in all of the individual courses in
the program. Program certi cates are available immediately after you receive the veri ed
certi cate for the nal course in the program.
Program certi cates that you have earned are visible on the Programs tab on your dashboard
and on your Pro le page.
On the Progress page, select Download Your Certi cate in the upper right corner of the
page.
On your dashboard, select Download Your Certi cate next to the name of your course.
Share the URL for your web certi cate or your PDF certi cate. For example, you can send
the URL in a message or post the URL on a personal website. Others can then visit that URL
to view your certi cate.

If your certi cate is a PDF certi cate, see Share a PDF Certi cate URL.
To share a web certi cate URL, you determine the URL for the web certi cate by using one of
the following methods.
Every certi cate includes a unique 32-digit certi cate ID. This ID is visible at the bottom of the
certi cate and is part of the certi cate URL.
1. Open the certi cate in your browser, and then select the certi cate ID.

2. Use the following URL, replacing certificate_ID with the certi cate ID that you copied.

For example, your certi cate URL might resemble the following URL.
https://courses.edx.org/certificates/a1b2c3d4e5f6g7h8i9j10k11l12m13n1
If you completed a course before September 2015, your certi cate is in PDF format. For PDF
certi cates, you see a Download Certi cate (PDF) option instead of a View Certi cate option
on your dashboard.
Like web certi cates, PDF certi cates have a certi cate URL. To determine a PDF certi cate
URL, follow these steps.
1. On your learner dashboard, locate the course whose certi cate you want to share.
The URL is visible near the bottom of the certi cate. For example, the certi cate URL might
resemble the following URL.

After you determine the PDF certifcate URL, you can share the URL with others. For example,
you can include the URL in an email or other message, add the URL to your personal website,

or post the URL on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Others can visit the URL
to view your certi cate.

11.4.3. Share Your Certi cates on Social Media
You can share web certi cates on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
For PDF certi cates, you can share the URL on social media sites. For more information, see
Share a PDF Certi cate URL.
Note
You can use these steps to share course and program certi cates on most social media
sites. If you want to share a certi cate on LinkedIn, see Share a Web Certi cate on
LinkedIn.
1. Sign in to the social media site where you want to share your certi cate. Then, go to your
edX dashboard.
3. Select View Certi cate, and then on the certi cate page, select the social media account
where you want to share your certi cate.

4. Complete the steps for the social media site to share your certi cate.

To share a web certi cate for a course or program on LinkedIn, follow these steps.

Because LinkedIn is a third-party website, the following steps might change without notice.

1. Follow the steps on the Adding a Suf x or Certi cations to Your Pro le Name LinkedIn
page to open the Certi cations page on LinkedIn.
2. On the Certi cations page, enter information in the following elds.
For Certi cation name, enter the name of the course or program.
For License number, enter the URL for your certi cate. For more information, see
Share a Web Certi cate URL.

(Optional) Select This certi cation does not expire.

(Optional) For Time period, enter the month and year when you received your
certi cate.
3. Select Save.
You can follow the steps in the Share a Web Certi cate on LinkedIn section to add your
certi cate to LinkedIn, or you can share your certi cate from your edX dashboard.
To share a PDF certi cate on LinkedIn from your edX dashboard, follow these steps.
To print a web certi cate, select View Certi cate to open the certi cate, and then select
Print Certi cate.
To print a PDF certi cate, select Download Certi cate (PDF) to open the certi cate, then
select the “Print” icon.
To print your certi cate in the most professional looking format, follow these guidelines.
Do not print the header or footer. Depending on your system, you might need to clear this
option in your browser’s print settings.
Set the margins to the minimum setting allowed. Depending on your system, you might
need to select the Minimum option for the margins.
Make sure that your browser’s print settings are set to include the background graphics for
your certi cate.
Note
Most browsers also allow you to print a web certi cate as a PDF le. When you open the
certi cate in a browser and select Print Certi cate, the dialog box that opens might have
an option such as Print as PDF or a similar option. Select that option and follow the
onscreen instructions to print your certi cate as a PDF.

EdX does not provide course transcripts. EdX certi cates do not include your nal course
grade.
However, your nal course grade appears with other course information on your dashboard of
courses, and a complete record of your scores on all course assignments and exams appears on
the course Progress page. If you need a record of your performance in a course, use your web
browser to print one of these pages.
To access your dashboard, on the edx.org website select your public edX username. Your
dashboard opens with a list of your courses.
To access your Progress page for a course, select View Course next to the name of the
course on your dashboard, and then select Progress.
