STEPS TO CREATE A SIMPLE BOX GRID IN PETREL

1. In the Processes tab under Utilities double click on the Make Simple Grid Process
2. In the Geometry tab, enter the dimensions of the model by placing the desired
a. Xmin
b. Ymin
c. Xmax
d. Ymax
e. DX
f. DY
g. Click on OK

3. Right click on the Skeleton in the created 3D grid and choose Convert to Surface

The surfaces have been created and are stored in the Input Tab under the Skeletons from 3D
grid folder

4. Right click on the Top surface and Choose Calculator

Assume the DZ is expected to be 100ft and 10 layers are to be created


Type the following in the Calculator and then click Enter for each one:

a. Top2 = Top -100


b. Top3 = Top2-100
c. Top4 = Top3-100
d. Top5 = Top4-100

This has created 5 layers in between Top and Mid

e. For the Mid, Type in Mid2=Mid-100


f. Repeat as in steps 3b to 3d above

The layers created look like shown in the diagram below:


5. Double Click on Make Simple Grid and name as desired
a. In the Input data tab
i. Click the button Insert Surface
ii. Highlight the surfaces created in step 3 above and load them all in (Make sure
they are loaded in order of shallowest to deepest horizon).

b. In the Geometry Tab,
i. Click on the 3D Grid created in step 1
ii. Choose Get all settings from selected and
iii. Click OK

You have your New Grid with several horizons which could be turned to layers

7. You may Use the Calculator to assign the properties to each cell in the grid block
8. To view the 3D grid

a. Open a New 3D window


b. Clicking on a created property
