Task 3: Flow through fixed and fluidized beds-Assessment (Report)

Student Id: Student Name

Task 3: Guidelines

 Solve only Task assessment as per the Students IDs indicated in the description (Table Task 3)
 Compile the report double-spaced on a separate sheet, standard-sized paper (8.26" x 11.69").
 Please don’t copy and paste the Task 3 description into your Task 3 Assement.
 If required, you can copy paste your sketches/calculations into the report.
 Submit the report through Assessment Submission for Task 3 on SULMS on or before 11 June, 2020

Task 3: Description Marks:100

A powder of mean particle size, Dp and particle density p, kg/m3 (refer Table
Task 3) is fluidized by air of density 1.2 kg/m 3 and viscosity 1.84 x 10-5 Pa. s
in a circular vessel of diameter 0.5 m. The mass of powder charged to the
bed is 240 kg and the volume flowrate of air to the bed is 140 m 3/hr. It is
known that the average bed Voidage at incipient fluidization is 0.45.

Use values of Dp and p as directed in the table below.
