Society or people in general respond to horror films/fear by being against watching these gory
spine chilling films by having this fear develop most likely if they watched a lot as a child, or
watching these films gives people a sense of ease and enjoyment. In source C it states “-form of
entertainment often leads to an intense adrenaline rush that affects individuals
differently...others could experience acute distress. This is especially true for children...not yet
able to process threatening and disturbing images…” This shows how most children if they are
exposed to horror films at such a young age that would probably have a negative impact on
their brain development as they grow older. This negative impact can well go beyond their
childhood and affect their adult world by “...having trauma and anxiety disorders...succumbed to
phobias or developed an unhealthy interest in the occult and paranormal.” also source C. With
children growing up in these environments can maybe have a negative or impulsive mindset can
manifest in ones brain and probably not take action until the children are well grown up. Even if
kids grow up in a household which they watch horror movies, this impact is not always negative.
With watching horror films people can feel a sense of enjoyment. Source E here states “Even if
the image is fictional, we still experience that rush of adrenaline, and our brains get flooded with
dopamine, the feel-good chemical that floods your brain when taking illicit drugs, or when you’re
in love.” Even if the scene is about a killer who is on the loose, some people feel a sense of
enjoyment due to what they see on the screen, they want to know what the outcome will be for
the characters. With the enjoyment some negatives could come with it but not all the time.
Source B states “People who seek out intense thrills and experiences...are also more likely to
report enjoying horror films…” Watching these films gives people a way to thrill seek without
even leaving their couch, which is why many people probably enjoy watching horror films. All in
all, horror films can give people pleasure, or a lack of comfort. (w.c. 368)
