Before planning an analysis (experiment), assess the hazards and potential risks associated with the chemicals and laboratory operations to be used.
The chemicals encountered in the laboratory have a broad spectrum of physical, chemical, and toxicological properties and physiological effects. The risks
associated with chemicals must be well understood prior to their use in an experiment.
In spite of guidelines and staff supervision, the primary responsibility for safety rests with the individual performing an analysis (experiment).
