CONTEXTUALIZED TEACHER RESOURCE IN MATHEMATICS 6

I. Learning Competency
Adds decimals and mixed decimals through ten thousandths without or with
regrouping.

Contextualized Competency:
Adds decimals and mixed decimals through ten thousandths using food and
food products of Guimaras

Lesson Objective:
At the end of the lesson the learner should be able to add decimals and
mixed decimals through ten thousandths

Performance Standard:
The learner is able to apply the four fundamental operations involving
fractions and decimals in mathematical problems and real-life situations.

Value Focus: Honesty

II. Subject Matter

Skill: Adding Decimals and Mixed Decimals Through Ten

Thousandths Without or With Regrouping

Reference: K to 12 Grade 6 Curriculum Guide, M6NS-Id-106.2

Math for life 6 pp 78-84
21st Century Mathematics 6 pp 57 – 60

Materials: Flash cards, Worksheets 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7

III. Procedure

A. Preparatory Activities

1. Drill

(Flash cards) – mental computation

Give the sum of the following

64 71 21 24 62
+24 +26 +12 +13 +10

2. Review:
Review on how to add decimals to the nearest tenths, hundredths and
thousandths. Distribute Worksheet 1.

1
Direction: Add the following:
1. 0.34 + 0.04 + 0.78+ 0.573 =

2. 0.6 + 0.56 + .08 + 0.456

3. 0.79 + 0.09 + 0.025 + 0.675 =

4. 0.89 + 0.435 + 0.6 + 0.32 =

5. 0.007 + 0.034 + 0.09 + 0.012 =

B. Developmental Activities

1. Presentation
Present the lesson through the following:

Ina went to the market. She bought a 0.9687 kilogram of

chicken breast, 1.2466 kg of papaya and 0.25 kg of sweet pepper,
and 0.0345 kg of ginger. How many kilograms did she buy in all?

Discussion:
Analyze the problem
What is asked?
What are given?
What is the number sentence?
Call a volunteer pupil to write his/her number sentence, the let him/her solve
using his/her solution.

0.9687
1.2466 Digits are arranged according to its place value
+ 0.0345
2.2498 Total number of kilograms of ingredients for tinola

Values Integration: Elicit from the pupil the value of honesty in

doing their task

Pair Activity
Let the pupils answer Worksheet 2

One day Debbie planned to cook spaghetti for her mother’s

th
50 birthday. She went to the grocery store to buy the ingredients.
She bought 2kg of pasta worth Php150.35, 2 bottles of mango
sauce which cost Php98.45000, 3 cans of cream worth Php150.50,
1 kg of ground pork worth Php180.576. How much change will she
get if she gave Php1000.00 to the cashier?

Discussion
 Analyze the problem
 What is asked in the problem?
 What are given in the problem?
 What operation/s will be used?
 What is the hidden question?
 What is the number sentence?
 Solve
 Let each pair do the task.

2. Fixing Skills

Working by Station
Let the pupils answer Worksheet 3, 4, and 5
a. Group pupils into 3
b. Assign each group their base then solve/do what is asked in each base
c. After 5 minutes each group will transfer to the next base until all group
have reached all the bases.
d. Each group will then present their work to the whole class.

Base I (Worksheet 3)

Give the sum

1. 0.8453 + 0.8765 3. 0.5744 + 0.3456

2. 22.0456 + 32.0765 4. 84.0897 + 12.436

Base 2 (Worksheet 4)

Give the sum.

1. 0.5252 + 0.2134 = _____________

2. 53.0987 + 9.7200 = _____________

3. 0.6755 + 0.0067 = _____________

4. 53.9876 + 12.970 = _____________

Base 3 (Worksheet 5)

Do what is asked for

1. (0.876 + 0.7265) – 0543 = N

2. 452.097 + 21.00987= N

3. 23.1234 +32.0087 = N

4. 34.0008 +30.3005 + 21.123 = N

3. Generalization

Lead the pupils to generalize.

How do we add decimals or mixed decimal through ten thousandths?

Decimals are added in the same way as a whole number. When

two decimals are added together or subtracted from each other, the
decimal points must be vertically aligned and the digits written in the
correct value column.

3
4. Application

Let the pupils read and solve the following problem:

Marjorie is celebrating their fiesta. She’s planning to cook

valenciana. She went to the market and buy the ingredients. She
bought 2 kilograms of malagkit worth Php350.50, 1.2 kilograms of pork
which costs Php230.35, 0.500 grams shrimp costing Php160.50 and
other ingredients which amounting to Php180.30. How much is her
change if she has brought with her Php1 500.00?

IV. Evaluation

Let the pupils answer Worksheet 6

Solve for N.

1. 0.6754 + 9675 = N

2. 34. 5634 + 72.2307 = N

3. 12.098 + 9.0987 = N

4. 56.2308 + 10.098 = N

5. 0.5608 + 1.0065 = N

V. Assignment

Let the pupils answer Worksheet 7

Add.
1. 9.006 + 7.907 =
2. 78.0984 + 0.3456 =
3. 6.35478 + 0.6959 =
4. 23.439260 + 10.920014 =
5. 0.00351 + 3.01002 =
