IMPORTANCE OF ARNIS
1. Do you think Arnis must be preserved and be sustained in our Culture?

Arnis needs to be maintained and established in our society and culture, largely because it is our martial
arts heritage. Because of this activity, we Filipinos became popular, this is part of our heritage and it
taught us a number of lessons about how and when we became strong and independent.

It is not only about Arnis as being the combative sports of the Philippines but also about Arnis
as being the reflection of us being real Filipinos; hence, it is essential to preserve and sustain
Arnis as part of our culture. How? We must continue using it and, if even possible, to improve it.
We can also study more about this combative sport, to research how we can influence other
countries to use this combative sport of ours.

2. Remy Presas Mentioned that Arnis must be an injury-free method of combative sports,
can we consider Arnis as a free injury combative sports? What is your opinion on this?

While arnis’ main usage is for self-defense, it can also be called an injury-free combative activity. If we
use Arnis for competition, there are various protective gear to be used, which might reduce the
possibility of an injury. However, if we use this to defend ourselves against a threat, then we
might not consider Arnis as a free-injury combative sport because we might injure the person
that causes danger to us. There are two perspectives to consider Arnis as injury-free or not.
