Case Analysis No.1

We all know that the computer is an electronic device that accepts inputs data, stores
the data, does some necessary calculations and operations and also provides outputs in the
desired format but some of the people don’t know the process on how the computer receives
data, process it, produces output and where the computer stores it for further references.
In the given illustration, the task of the computer starts to the input devices. Input
devices are used to interact with a computer system. The arrow in the illustration from Input
Devices contain “data” which means that the input devices send data/information and
instructions to the computer. The input devices will be the one to convert input data or
instructions into suitable binary form and will go to the memory as the arrow heads pointing
out.
In the memory, the data/information and instructions that comes from the input
devices can be temporarily store in this area. It holds the data and instructions for processing
which the computer system is currently working on. The arrow from the memory in the
illustration is pointing/connecting to the processor which means that the memory storage
communicates directly to the Central-Processing Unit (CPU), also known as Processor.
The Central-Processing Unit or Processor, people know it as the brains of computer
system which means that every action/activity of the computer eventually goes through the
CPU. In the given illustration, the CPU has two parts and one of it is the Control Unit (CU) that

reads and interprets instructions from memory and transforms them into a series of signals
which cause the other units of the system to execute them. If the data or instructions has
necessary calculations , the Control Unit communicates to the second part of the CPU which is
the Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU), that are responsible in performing necessary simple arithmetic
operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and logical operation.
After being processed to the Processor/CPU, the information/data is sent to memory as
the arrow illustrated, where it is hold until it is ready to be released to an output devices or
store in a storage devices that can permanently hold the data. Choosing to store in the storage
devices (Local Disk or Hard Drive or any secondary storage devices), the data can be sent again
to the memory if it is really ready to be released to an output devices.
Overall, the CPU or the Processor is the most important component because it actually
responsible for interpreting and executing most of the commands from the computer hardware
or software and controls the operation of all other components such as memory unit, input and
output devices. It simply accepts binary data as input and processes data according to those
instructions and provides the result as output.
