Describing the structure’s case

 The structure is a residential villa,

being constructed in the present
time.
 Punching failure took place.
 Precautions were considered
immediately in site.
Site Investigation

 As usual, a consultant engineer was

asked to come and investigate.
 A hole near to the failure area took
place in construction, while no
holes were considered around the
column during design.
 Other cracks were found in the
slab during the site visit.
Data Collection

 Structural Plans of the villa were brought to be revised.

 Loads considered in design.
 Actual loads on the slab during construction.
Structural Analysis

 By using SAP2000 program, analysis

took place to calculate the load
transferred from the slab to the
column.
 Then it was required to figure out
if there were mistakes in structural
design or not.

Method Of Repairing

 The surrounding panels were

supported by formwork.
 The hatched area of the slab was
removed, with leaving dowels 1 m
out from the remaining part of the
slab.
Method Of Repairing

 Formwork for the new slab required in the hatched area was put.
 New RFT. Meshes were connected with the dowels coming out from the
surrounding parts of the slab which were not required to be removed.
 The slab was constructed back again.
