Q. 1. Write a composition in about 350 words on any
one of the following :
(a) Joint family system : a blessing for modern society.
Ans. Joint family system is indeed a blessing for modern
society. People need love from their kith and kin and not
separation. Joint family provides that love and cooperation to
its members. People are now living more in nuclear family
because of factors like urbanisation and as they go for jobs.
The traditional joint family system is breaking up. In this
situation joint family is the best pattern of living because it is
conducive to growth and development of its members.It imposes
a kind of unwritten discipline on the members that those who
are more able economically shall share some of the burden of
those who are not.The joint family runs on an understanding of
mutual adjustment. Naturally, those who are benefitted by the
generosity of others remain obliged and grateful. In joint family,
the cousins study together, play together, quarrel together and
are even punished together. It provides a feeling of camaraderie
in the children that is free from any discrimination. The
discipline in a joint family is self-imposed on its members. The
head of the big family becomes virtually its patriarch and the
family prospers squarely if the patriarch and the other
constituents observe the norms. The family tradition and culture
remain intact in a joint family. That culture helps the children
in their overall physical and mental growth. Members remain
under safety and comfort socially as well as economically in a
joint family system. For all the tasks in the family, whether it is
marriage, education of the children or if somebody falls ill, all
members come forward to help each other. The person
concerned does not feel the burden or does not come under any
stress. The senior people as well as small children in the family
get proper care and love from the family members. Earlier,
woman members used to do only domestic work, now they are
also going outside for work and in such situations, the children
and aged people are deprived of love and care.
(b) The Changing face of cinema today.
Ans. Cinema today has changed quite thoroughly, though
not beyond recognition. There is a change in the celluloid
economy accompanied by different thematic form and content.
Producers are getting innovative to attract cine goers. They are
including new features in the cinema. Keeping in view the new
trends and people’s taste, producers are also updating the content
of movies. They are using new technology in their movies. There
has been a remarkable change in the means of production and
consumption of cinema following developments in overall
entertainment sector in recent decades. A steep technological
progress with advent of new channels of reaching masses at
affordable costs is redefining the very approach to the industry
with far-reaching implications. Small budget films are
frequenting in theatres. Its striking prominence is compelling a
section of people to term it as another new wave of Indian
Cinema. Producers are of course concerned with relatively big
budget films which will attract large audiences. New cinema
building in India has attracted the affluent middle class in the
major cities, but these are also aimed at the NRI (non-resident
Indian) market in UK and North America. The NRI market is
tiny in number by comparison with the total Indian audience.
Bollywood’s film producers are desperately hunting for a new
winning formula that will ensure box-office bonanzas. A major
effort is being done for bringing down the cost at production
stage for low budget films. Producers are also producing sequels
of movies which are doing good business in the market.

(c) Qualities that make a leader.
Ans. A leader has some inherent qualities and that make

also a good communicator. A leader is able to clearly and
succinctly describe what he wants. He relates his vision to the
people working under him. A leader also has a sense of humour.

than dreading it. A leader remains confident despite setbacks.

not only to the work at hand, but also to his promises. A leader
always thinks positive. If the people are feeling happy and

Thus, authorities should pay proper attention and save them

system for waste water as well as industrial effluents.
(b) The importance of personal growing and hygiene.
Ans. Personal growing and hygiene are important. If
hygiene is neglected, it will adversely affect growth of a person.
Proper diet and exercise are important. At the same time out
environment and place of living should be clean. Maintaining
personal hygiene is necessary for personal, social, health and
psychological reasons. Keeping a good standard of hygiene
helps prevent the development and spread of infections, illnesses
and bad odours. Good hygiene means you will have a good
body and body image influences self-esteem, confidence and
motivation. Those who already have low self esteem and
especially those with depression often neglect personal hygiene

which perpetuates the problem of poor body image.Many forms
of modern media including magazines, fashion, TV, film and
the internet present a certain body image as being acceptable
or expected. Young children and teenagers are especially
influenced by this - physical appearance being the ultimate factor
by which to judge and be judged. Good hygiene practices help
to keep you healthy, give you confidence and be pleasant for
those around you. Thus hygiene helps in proper growth and
development of a person.
(c) Girls’ Education and the family.
Ans. Girls’ education has an impact on family. Improving
girls’ educational levels has been demonstrated to have clear
impacts on the health and economic future of young women,
which in turn improves the prospects of the family and the
community. In the poorest countries of the world, 50 per cent
of girls do not attend secondary school. Yet, research shows
that every extra year of school for girls increases their lifetime
