1.1.2 Summary of the Movie:

In 1893, in the British era, the people used to give lagaan(tax) to their king and
the Britishers used to take the lagaan from the king of respective districts. The
same was happened in Champaner village. But unfortunately the rain was not
there since 3 years and the farmers didn't have that much cereals and pulses to
give as Lagaan to the king. So they told King that they want to worship at
Siddheshwar Temple which was situated in the other village and the King of that
village was enemy of the King of Champaner village. But the Britishers had
friendly realtions with them so King told British Captain Andrew Russell about this
and requested him to talk with the enemy King. Andrew Russell told that he will
do this but the farmers will have to give double Lagaan this year. King told the
farmers about this and due to this the farmers were angry and they went to King
that they don't want this. There, the Britishers were playing Cricket. The farmers
told the British Captain that they will not give double lagaan to them as the rain
has not been there since three years. So British Captain Andre Russell gave
challenge to one of the boy of village named Bhuvan that if he plays cricket with
them and wins the game then Britishers will not take lagaan from him for 3 years.
But if Bhuvan loses the game then the whole villagers will have to pay lagaan
three times as earlier. So the whole movie tells about how Bhuvan accepted the
challenge and how he struggled a lot for his village.

1.1.3 Theme ( Moral ) of the Movie:

The moral of this movie is that we need to see the problems as an opportunity to
do something and to succeed. We need to face every problem with courage and
dedication. Along with dreaming, implementation of that dream is very much
important in life. In movie Bhuvan dreamed of winning Cricket Match against
Britishers and bring happiness in life of Villagers asVillagers will not have to give
lagaan for 3 years. Along with dreaming he also worked hard in order to achieve
his dream and so here implementation is very much important parameter. This
movie also told us that no matter whatever difficulty comes in our life we should
be determined and face the problem with full courage. In this movie Bhuvan was
knowing the game Gilli-Danda. Using the analogy of Gilli danda he learned how to
play cricket. This shows that small examples help to learn complex things. In this
movie building a team and having perfect leadership skills played an important
role. Bhuvan built up the Cricket team for match and he also had good leadership
qualities and that helped him to win the match. And this movie also teaches that
never be overconfident and don't underestimate anyone. Britishers were
overconfident and they underestimated Bhuvan and his teammates in Cricket
match and due to this only they lose the match.

1.1.4 Audience Demographics:

This movie is about Nationalism and how to face the difficulties in life. This movie
was for everyone old, young people, children. This movie would be liked by all of
them as this is an inspirational movie and it teac us the lesson of how to be
determined and to achieve the goals in life.

1.1.5 My opinion for this movie:

The movie was awesome and it taught me a lot. It taught me how to acquire good
leadership skills. As in the movie Bhuvan prepared people for the cricket match
and made a team this shows good teamwork and leadership skills. In the movie
Bhuvan accepted the challenge against Britishers and that taught me about how
to face difficult situations in life and how to be determined to achieve the goals.
Bhuvan struggled a lot and won the match which taught me that we need to work
hard to achieve our dreams in life. Britishers were overconfident and also
underestimated Bhuvan and his teammates and as a result of this they lose the
match. This taught me that Never be overconfident and don't underestimate
anyone. In the movie the way Bhuvan and his teammates learned cricket was
wonderful and though Bhuvan was injured in the match but still he hit a six in the
last scene and won the match that really inspired me.

Captain Andrew Russell was the main Antagonist in the film lagaan. He used to
impose high taxes on villagers and when villagers were unable to pay then he
gave challenge to Bhuvan to play cricket with him.
The biggest turning point in the movie was the challenge that Bhuvan accepted
from Britishers. There were the chances that Bhuvan would not accept the
challenge but Bhuvan showed courage and due to his deterministic nature he
accepted the challenge. Though the Cricket was not known to him but still for the
happiness of all the villagers, he accepted the challenge and also learned Cricket
in limited time period and due to his best leadership skills he won the match and
also won the hearts of all the villagers.
