Peer Assessment 2:

Calculate the stresses induced in a beam-slab section (of a simply supported bridge deck) due
to the creep and shrinkage in temperatures. The section comprises Y6 beams spaced at 2m
centres having the concrete strength of 50N/mm2. The strength of concrete used in the slab is
40N/mm2.

The environment of the bridge may be taken as very humid owing to its location in the
vicinity of a river.

Make suitable assumption for any missing data.

Criteria:

Appropriate design calculations for the problem at hand.

Evidence:

1. Code requirements acknowledged and followed

2. Computation of forces correct and clear.
3. Self equilibrating forces and final stresses correctly computed.

Judgement:

1. All code requirements are followed in correct sequence and referred to them
appropriately.
2. Strains calculated correct, if not then to which extend are these wrong.?
3. Self equilibrating forces correct, if not then to which extend?
4. Extend of correct final stresses, if not correct.
5. Highlight the differences (and errors) if the values are different from your
calculations.

Some recommendations and DeadLines

 You must submit your contribution using ‘Submit and review’ option within ‘Peer
Assessment 2’ folder on the ULearn module. No hard copies are required for this
purpose.
 The deadline for the submission of your contribution is 18-November, after which
you will not be able to see the ‘Submit and review’ option and hence will not be able
to submit appropriately.
 You must then contribute to the marking of two other peers by 25 November. After
this date, you will not be able to make any modifications in the Peer assessment 2
folder. Whist marking and commenting please use reply button rather than starting a
new thread.
 Please make sure whilst marking that you mark for only those peers which have not
already been marked twice by other peers. This is to ensure that everyone in your
group will get the feedback atleast twice from their peers.
