PROGRAMME BRIEF
1. Rationale
The technical education in the country is undergoing a paradigm shift as India became a signatory member of
the Washington Accord in the year 2014. Therefore, the focus of technical education system in the country is
now towards outcome-based education so as to ensure quality and excellence. In this changed scenario, the
proficiencies and abilities expected of technical teachers need to be transformed to the match the changed
need of the stakeholders. This is all the more relevant as teachers joining the technical education system will
be serving the system for the next thirty to forty years and hence this training is of utmost importance for
their preparedness to become an effective change agent.

This induction program is expected to develop in teachers the abilities which are essential for them to
improve their performance in the changed teaching-learning environment, so that all the stakeholders i.e.
student, industry, government, society and the management are benefitted at large. This integrated four
week training program is designed so that the trainee teachers will be able to understand and implement
outcome-based curriculum to achieve program educational objectives, graduate attributes, program
outcomes, program specific outcomes and course outcomes. It will also develop awareness about various
aspects of accreditation and provide ideas to trainee teachers to organize variety of events for students and
develop required abilities in them.

This program will also motivate and create considerable interest in the trainee teachers to professionally
perform the roles and responsibilities in a satisfied manner. It will also enable the teachers to plan their career
and prepare themselves to accept the challenges of teaching profession. It will help them to further
appreciate the importance of self-learning, lifelong learning, interfacing the graduates technical abilities with
society, environment, safety, sustainable development, innovations and legal requirements. This programme
is expected to be a good beginning for young technical teachers to improve their quality and prepare
themselves for their career advancement and assume higher responsibilities in future.

2. Objectives
The trainee will be able to:

a) Explain teacher’s role in effective curriculum implementation


b) Design different types of laboratory experiments (Samples)
c) Plan to use different teaching methods to achieve outcomes in all the three domains.
d) Prepare a sample plan for implementation of laboratory experiences.
e) Discuss importance of social and ethical practices with examples relevant to graduates of the program
f) Design sample problem/ project plan with essential elements of implementation and assessment
g) Plan for self-learning and life-long learning using internet based resources.
h) Prepare a sample question paper incorporating various types of questions.
i) Develop a plan for organization and assessment industrial training of students.
j) Prepare a complete sample course plan with necessary components for achievement of COs.

3. Programme Contents
Learning theories,specification table, method of question paper design; concept, purpose, design and use of
rubrics, models of creative problem solving, method of design of laboratory experiences, need and purpose of
industry institution interaction for curriculum implementation, types laboratory and project work; advanced
instructional methods – group discussion, case method, seminars, role play, simulation, educational games;
action research; technology enabled learning, self-learning, flipped classroom, organization of events –
professional society activities, meetings quizzes, competitions, paper and design contests, exhibitions, alumni
meets; self-learning and life-long learning; content beyond curriculum; professional, social and attitudinal ethics;
management of industrial training, research and consultancy projects.

4. Major Outcomes Expected


Different types of designed experiments; list of student project work; rubric/s of project work/problem based
learning ,format of industrial training report and assessment; documents developed on cases, problems, projects,
question paper and reports;, self-development plan, Sample Implementation plan for a course.

5. Instructional Strategy
Input sessions; brainstorming; group discussion – buzz sessions, panel discussion; Assignments – classroom and
home; simulated teaching; case study; analogies; role plays; projects; educational games, demonstrations; team
teaching; question-answer; mentoring; e-learning.

6. Target Group
Teachers of Diploma level technical institutions who have completed the Induction Phase-I.
