CHAPTER TWO

2.0 Introduction

This chapter depicts vividly aims, objects of IT (Industrial Training) and the
principal methods that the internee used.

2.1 Aims and Objectives

Industrial Training (IT) is aimed at.

 Equipping the student with practical knowledge in the field.

 Relating the practical solutions to the theoretical aspects of engineering
knowledge.
 Giving the student confidence and exposure in the field.
 Studying industrial relations & interactions with the local people within the
workplace.
 Understanding the different policies and strategies of organizations in
relation to construction regulations taught at the institute.
 To coordinate the trainees/internees to the outside companies for easy job
acquiring after the completion of the course.

2.2 Principal methods used

The training was done on the following principal methods;

 Research
 Observation
 Questions and Answers
 Sampling
 Direct practical work
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE GROUP/COMPANY

The Company I worked with is unfortunate that it is not yet a big one as you
may think, however, several contracts bothbig, moderate and small are given
to it. It was started by two great men who are engineers namely;

1. Eng. Thembo James

2. Eng. Jackson

The above men are citizens of Bwera Kasese. They started to work together in
1997 up to date. In 2004, they joined minds and came up with an idea of
organizing a small unregistered company and they named it as BWERA
BUILDING COMPANY which is now having a number of around 50 workers
who are divided to several contracts in different areas of Kampala and Kasese
areas where the Sub Company normally get them. These workers include Site
foremen, Mansions and Potters.

LOCATION

This small building company is located in Nyabutunda Village, Bwera

Mbondwe Rubiriha Town Council Kasese District. It can be contacted on 0773
595602.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COMPANY

The Directors of the Company set it out with aims and objectives and these
included the following;-

 To generate employment opportunities in the country.

 To develop technical skills among the youth like construction work.
 To produce good quality work which can last for a long period of time.
 To extend technical services to the people.
 To contribute to the development of the country by making some
improvement in engineering services.
ORGANISATION STRUCTURE

Below is the chart showing how the group I worked with is organized. It is
unfortunate that the group is not yet a company but planning to be, however,
it having some sort of organization as illustrated below in the chart.

Much as it is still a group, it is so strong and several clients trust in it by giving

it contracts of all kinds. It accepts contracts of brickwork, steel work etc.
