What have you realized about what enables your passion for teaching? How
have these factors affected you as an educator?

Enablers of Passion are important in teaching, not just to keep us going, but
to ensure that our goals for our learners would be attained. It would be
difficult for us to just teach, assess and evaluate without really connecting to
our students, that is, without really knowing if something has been added on
them or without really knowing if they really got interested with what we
have been teaching.

From the word enable, it enables me to be more, to do more and to be

more. It’s not just about me being evaluated as a good teacher, neither as
one who will be praised for accomplishing a lot, or such a one who was able
to teach all the competencies required of the semester. It will be rather me
who knows how to connect, and to have that “withitness”. The one who
knows how to care for the feelings of the learners, for you cannot feed the
minds of those who are broken; a one such person that, though poor can
enrich many; one such person who aspires not to be great but to be a better
version of myself every day; one such person that aspires to contribute to
this country by giving the best in this profession I have chosen.

It makes me feel blessed that the Lord have entrusted me with this kind of
profession. Going back, this was not even my first love. As I have always
been telling, I’m an introvert person. I’m a person who is better off with four
corners of my workplace accomplishing my paper works without anybody to
disturb me. This is the kind of workplace I felt I am made for. I was able to
work with such a desirable workplace in the first job I got in. I even
advanced by getting promoted in this line of job. But leaving this job and
being led to teaching is a major adjustment on my part and I thought I
won’t be able to love this job. I see students as disturbance on the paper
works that I need to accomplish. But this feeling did not last long, when I
saw how important the role of a teacher in a life of a student. Much training
for newbies inspired me. It is not just the trainings that inspired me but also
my students and my colleagues.

But I believe, among the rest, the following had contributed the most in
keeping my passion alive for teaching. Loving God and His Word is one
enabler of my passion, because as a teacher, I can impart not just the
competencies. It’s not just feeding the minds but feeding the hearts of the
students also, that their values would be developed. I’m fulfilled whenever I
see those who students, who were once not interested in His Word but now
have an inclination on it.

My family is another enabler of my passion in teaching. Had it not been for

them, I wouldn’t be led in this kind of job. Their being very supportive to me
keeps me going.

I claim that the genuine concern for the professional development of my

students is another thing that has been keeping my passion for teaching.
Without this, I would just roam around the room and say what is regarding
the lesson for the day without real connection with my students.

As an educator, these enablers of passion affected me in a positive way for

it is a fuel that keeps my passion for teaching alive. These made me look
forward to going to school daily to see the learners and have another day of
understanding them, that they would also understand me; a day that would
be full of learning. Working is no longer a stressful matter but a joyful thing
that makes me feel fulfilled and rewarded. Every day is a rewarding day.

What have you realized about what enables your passion for teaching? How have these
factors affected you as an educator?

Responding to the question given at hand requires five hundred words so to better
state my cause, I would like to start my answer by telling who I am. My name is
Jobethlyn Mendoza and currently designated as Teacher III in Magpapalayok National
High School in Nueva Ecija. I am from a broken family but that not deter me from
finishing my Bachelors Degree for I believe God guided me in my studies. He, the
almighty one was the one I adhere to in times of troubles and pain.

Contrary to what you might have believed that some said that pursuing teaching is like
being a nun or a priest, then you must be called by Him to be one. There must be a
passion in every nerve of your body to be able to embrace this most sacrificial job of all
and for me that is teaching. You must be fit to endure hardships and pain from your
chosen profession.

As I finish, my studies - I did not work as a teacher. As I was waiting for the result of
the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET), I was determined to provide for my
family so I tried to enter the BPO or the Call Center industry. I was immediately hired
as a Customer Service Representative for a Telecommunication Company however the
account is overseas.

This prompted me to weighed in regarding being a teacher and being a call center
agent. Both were difficult dealing with irate customers (for CSR) and difficult
students/parents (for teaching). My first job pays better than being a teacher (private)
at that time. So I decided to finish the six month contract though I passed the board
exam.

My family did not approved of my work, they said its better if I practise my profession.
So when I had given birth to my first born, I tried to enter in the public school as a job-
order or what you call a contractual teacher being paid by the provincial government.
The salary was only a third of the salary I received from being a call center agent but it
was worth it being close to your love ones all the time.

Ranking came for public school teachers and I decided to try my luck. With the grace of
the God above I was accepted as Teacher I in the high school where I was already
teaching as a contractual teacher. The proximity to the community where I live was a
big bonus and the students already know me well.

I learned that teaching is a demanding job but really worth your while. It can make you
sad but it can also make you smile. Money is not important because in this profession,
you will never get rich. You can only be rich in the heart and mind of the students you
helped and inspire.

In this profession, I was able to find amazing and helpful hands that became by peers,
colleague and close friends. They helped me in my battle for education of the kids we
are entrusted to and create a better me in this world. Together we keep our passion for
teaching alive.

God, family and friends are my inspiration that enable me to keep my passion for
teaching.
Like me, teacher Jobethlyn, did not have teaching as her first love but when she was into it, I can say
that she got inspired by God, family and friends and it keeps her passion for teaching alive. She did not
prioritize how much she can earn for her family but how many students can she enrich by nurturing
their hearts and minds.
