COVID-19 Preparedness Plan
Kanabec County Historical Society / Kanabec History Center is committed to providing a safe and
healthy workspace for all of our workers and customers and preserving the sanitation of our accessions.
To ensure we have a safe and healthy workplace, we have developed the following COVID-19
Preparedness Plan in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. All KHC contributors are responsible for
implementing this plan. Our goal is to mitigate the potential for transmission of COVID-19 in our
workplaces and communities, and this requires full cooperation among our workers and clients. Only
through this effort can we establish and maintain the safety and health of everyone in our workplace.

Identifying sick workers and ensuring sick workers stay home:


I. Employees and Board Members are not to come into Kanabec History Center if: they are sick;
they are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19; the have recently come into contact with a
person who may have or did test positive for COVID-19 and have not quarantined for two
weeks.
II. If any employees or Board Members contract COVID-19, they are to remain quarantined for
the duration of their symptoms and then for two weeks after symptoms cease before returning
to the Kanabec History Center.
III. If an employee must stay home sick, they will not receive pay or will only receive pay for
hours worked at home. Our employees are understanding, and this will NOT deter them from
adhering to our preventive and protective policies.

Social distancing and additional protections and protocols for managing occupancy:
IV. Kanabec History Center will only host groups of 20 or less for indoor rental services and
museum tours, as per state requirements for not exceeding 25% capacity.
V. Kanabec History Center will require self-regulated social distancing by all guests, employees,
and Board Members.
VI. Additionally, social distancing will be coordinated with floor markings showing guests the
distance they must keep from other guests in the museum, kitchen, and banquet room.

Additional protections and protocols to limit face-to-face interactions:


VII. Kanabec History Center employees will wear masks and limit physical contact when
interacting with and facing guests, at the front office counter, in rental spaces, and in the
museum, to prevent the spreading of germs.

Worker hygiene and source controls:


VIII. Kanabec History Center employees and Board Members will wash and/or sanitize their hands
regularly throughout the day, including before and after touching any objects and surfaces in
the museum and rental spaces and services.
IX. Kanabec History Center employees will sanitize any and all objects and surfaces in the
museum and rental spaces and services before and after they are touched/used by guests,
employees, and Board Members.

Workplace building and ventilation protocols:


X. Kanabec History Center will run the fans to ventilate the museum, rental space, and office.
XI. Kanabec History Center will open outside doors when appropriate to encourage cleansing air
flow throughout the building.

Workplace cleaning and disinfection protocols:


XII. Kanabec History Center will ensure regular cleaning and sanitization of bathrooms and other
guest services and surfaces within KHC.
XIII. Kanabec History Center will provide hygiene and sanitation options and require guests to
wash and sanitize hands before and after touching/using any museum items or
objects/surfaces within rental spaces and services.

Receiving new items protocols:


XIV. Kanabec History Center will request any accession items be sanitized before being donated
and employees will also sanitize any new accession, supply, or other physical donation items
in whatever way appropriate upon being received.
XV. Employees will ensure that any and all new items are sanitized before and after being
touched/used by guests, employees, or Board Members.

Communications and supervision practices and protocols:


XVI. Kanabec History Center employees and Board Members will remain vigilant and up to date on
government mandated protocols and requirements/recommendations by the CDC and
healthcare experts on how to keep our employees, Board Members, guests, and accessions
safe and clean.
XVII. All sanitation procedures will be ensured and supervised by the Museum Administrator.
XVIII. Guests of Kanabec History Center will not be actively supervised when renting or touring the
museum and are responsible to monitor their own social distancing and hygiene.

What customers and clients can do to minimize transmission of COVID-19:


XIX. Kanabec History Center requests that guests who are: sick; showing symptoms of COVID-19;
or have recently come into contact with a person who may have or did test positive for
COVID-19 who has not quarantined for two weeks; do not visit KHC until they are healthy and
have quarantined if necessary.
XX. Kanabec History Center requires guests to practice social distancing while visiting KHC.
XXI. Kanabec History Center highly encourages and recommends guests to use face masks and
carry personal sanitizer for regular usage while visiting KHC.
XXII. Guests of Kanabec History Center who rent our spaces are responsible to clean up after
themselves and thoroughly wash and sanitize when appropriate: any tables, chairs, kitchen
utensils, and/or other supplies used.

Additional protections and protocols for receiving and exchanging payment:


XXIII. Kanabec History Center will still accept cash as payment and offer cash change. Employees
will wash hands and sanitize before and after handling cash and strongly recommend all
guests do the same.
XXIV. Kanabec History Center will encourage writing checks and using cards as payment methods.
Employees will wash hands and sanitize before and after handling a guest’s card.
XXV. Kanabec History Center also offers a no-contact payment method via card, typically used
over the phone, that we will strongly encourage guests to use in-person.
