CSA Global has nearly 30 years experience including mine operations, management

and consulting. Much of our operating experience stems from our drill and blast
engineers who design and supervise drilling and blasting operations through out
Australia. CSA Global has been responsible for the development and execution of blast
improvement programs that have provided significant benefits to operations. These
programs have included new initiation systems, explosive performance evaluations,
rock slope damage control and installation of ground support systems.

PRACTICAL BLAST IMPROVEMENT SERVICES
Drilling and explosive costs are a large proportion of a mine operating costs. Blast performance has a
direct effect on earthmoving, processing costs, wall stability, re-handle, ore loss, dilution, recovered ore
grade, mining equipment capital costs, and overall mine production rates for ore and waste. Because
every deposit is unique and the divergent objectives of the many stakeholders in blasting performance,
independent advice can assist in clarification of objectives and improved blasting performance.

IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
Depending on the identified objectives the improvement program would proceed as follows:

Stage 1 : Identification of improvement opportunities

• Review of objectives, stakeholder satisfaction, perceived constraints,

• Review of design methods and procedures,

• Review of drilling and charging performance against procedures and design,

• Review of blast records and performance evaluation techniques,

• Review of drill and blasting performance against objectives,

• Review of technical developments and products,

• Recommendations to improve performance.

Stage 2 : Improvement plan

• Identify new or modified procedures to ensure blast design parameters are implemented.

• Plan a blasting development program to meet stakeholder objectives,

• Identify and manage risks associated with the implementation of the program,

• Schedule the development program to minimise disruption to production.

Stage 3 : Monitoring and evaluation

As the development program is likely to be undertaken over an extended period of time, continuity of
monitoring and evaluation of initiating is provided for continues improvement.

Stage 4 : Documentation
Document drill and blast design methods and quality control procedures to lock in benefits.

DELIVERABLES
The following deliverables will be provided:

• Report of current practices and recommendations for improvement,

• A development plan and schedule to improve blasting performance,

• Monitoring and evaluation support, and

• Updated documentation of drilling and blast design methods and procedures.
