MODULE 8 ASSIGNMENTS

MODULE 8: HAIR AND CLOTH DYNAMICS

1. Module 8 Assignment 1 (M8A1): Hair Design Sheets

Recommended Time Investment: 2 Hours per page Recommended Frequency: Twice Weekly

Create a basic mannequin-like head without facial features, and use it to create a set of 8 heads on the
page (horizontal page layout is best). Utilising what you have learned, along with reference images of
your choosing, design 8 unique male or female hairstyles.

Ensure you work in two stages first, the rough stage and then the refined stage, and bear in mind how
important looseness is in drawing believable hair. Strive to do 2 sheets a week until you are confident in
your ability to draw hair, and re-watch the lessons if you are unsure.

2. Module 8 Assignment 2 (M8A2): 7 Clothing Fold Types

Recommended Time Investment: 2 Hours per page Recommended Frequency: 5 Exercises Total

Utilising the lesson on Cloth Dynamics and the 7 Types of Folds, create your own set of comprehensive
clothing fold notes, drawing out examples of each fold, one fold type per page on 7 pages. Ensure
looseness and contemplate where gravity, compression and the point of tension play a role in the
folding of the fabric.

REMINDER: Make sure you have loose tapering lines, and are VERY aware of the line overlaps in your
piece, ensuring each one is intentional, and makes sense.

Ensure that when you have completed your assignments and are submitting them to the Character
Art School Community, that you are clearly stating the assignment number, for example “M2A2”,
so that you are critiqued and given feedback correctly at your current level of knowledge.
