A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer Shenaia: “For the Catholics make the sign of

Shenaia: Live Jesus in our hearts

All: forever. In the name of the Father, the

of paper under your chairs.

1. Greetings

Good morning Class!

All: Good Morning Ms. Canoy.
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

2. Attendance

So who’s absent today? All: None Miss.

Very Good keep it up.

3. Setting up standards

Before we precede our lesson,

who can give me our rules to
follow during the discussion?
Okay, Jenny. Jenny: Sit properly.

Another one, Mary Mitzi. Mary Mitzi: Listen to the person

talking in front.

Okay, another one? Kim. Kim: Raise your hand if you want to
answer.

I will expect you class to All: Yes Miss.

follow our rules. Do you
understand?

B. Lesson Proper
a. Motivation
Pick a partner and I want you
to get one envelope from me. All: Yes Miss.
Inside these envelopes are
scrambled letters and you will
have to arrange it. After you
arrange it post it on the board.
The first group who will
finish first will be given
points for today’s discussion.
Is it clear? Okay I will give
you one minute for the
activity. Time starts now.

*After a minute* Kim and Mitzi: Finish Miss!

Okay all your answers are

correct, but Kim and Mitzi
will be given the extra points
for today, please give
yourselves a round of
applause.

Now please read aloud what All: Linear Model of Communication!

have you arranged on the
board.

Very good. So what do you

think is our lesson for today?
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
Yes, Ethel. Ethel: Linear model of communication
miss.
Excellent.
b. Presentation
Now, we will talk about linear Shenaia: Objectives
model of communication and At the end of the lesson, the students
its types. But before that should be able to;
please read the first objective
Shenaia. a. Identify linear model
communication and its
types.
Okay thank you, please read Madel:
next objective Madel. b. Perform a role-play about
the types of linear
communication.
Thank you, please read the Tomas:
last one Tomas. c. Value the importance of
linear communication in
the society.
Thank you, please take your
seat.

C. Discussion
Now, I will show you a video and
give me your opinion about it
after watching.
(plays a public speaking video)

Now, what can you say about the Kim: The video conveys a message about
video? Yes, Kim. world peace.

Very good. Another one, Cris. Cris: It is rhetoric and convinces people
about the bad effects of war.

Excellent. Now, as you have

observed in the video, the man
was publicly speaking and
communicating to the audience
but the audiences will not be able
to give their feedbacks. That was
just one of the examples of linear
communication.

Now what is linear Mitzi: Linear model of communication is

communication based on your considered one way process where sender
previous knowledge? Yes, Mitzi. is the only one who sends message and
receiver doesn’t give feedback or
response.
Very good, who can give another Hygiea: The message signal is encoded
answer? Yes Hygiea? and transmitted through channel in
presence of noise. The sender is more
prominent in linear model of
communication.
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
Excellent. All your answers are correct.
Linear model was founded by Shannon
and Weaver which was later adapted by
David Berlo into his own model known
as SMCR (Source, Message, Channel,
Receiver) Model of Communication.
Please take note.

Linear model has defined set of

components required for a Row 1: Sender is the person who sends a
communication to be established where, message after encoding.
please read row 1.

Next, row 2.
Row 2: Encoding is the process of
converting the message into codes
compatible with the channel and
understandable for the receiver.

Thank you, next. Row 3: Decoding is the process of

changing the encoded message into
understandable language by the receiver.

Okay please continue reading the next, Axl: Message is the information sent by
Axl. the sender to the receiver.

Next, Andreea. Andreea: Channel is the medium through

which the message is sent.

Alright, next Mitzi. Mitzi: Receiver is the person who gets

the message after decoding.

Last one please read everyone. All: Noise is the disruptions that are
caused in the communication process in
channel or in understandability of the
message.

Thank you. So now, there are types of

linear model of communication.
Specifically, Aristotle’s model, Shannon
Weaver model, and Berlo’s SMCR
model.
So who have any ideas about Aristotle’s Mitzi: Aristotle’s Model is a linear
model? Yes Mitzi? communication model which was made
for public speaking.

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Very good. In Aristotle’s model, the Kim: Oration Miss.
speaker sent message and the audience
receive it. The model was made to
establish propaganda. Who can give me
an example? Yes Kim?

Excellent! That is a one good example.

Next is Shannon Weaver model. Who has Ethel: The Shannon Weaver Model of
an idea about this model? Yes Ethel? Communication is a mathematical model
used for technical communication or
machine communication.

Alright, very good. In Shannon Weaver’s Tomas: Telegraph and telephones Miss.
model, if the channel does not have
distorting elements or noise producing
elements, the communication is
successful. Who can give an example of
this model? Yes Tomas?

Thank you, the next is Berlo’s SMCR Cris: Berlo’s Model was made to
Model. Give me your idea about this, understand general human
Cris. communication.

Okay, in Berlo’s Model, communication

depends on many factors: like
communication skills, attitude,
knowledge, socio-cultural systems, the
way in which the message has been sent,
the content of the message, senses of the
receiver, etc.

So out of the three models that we have Shenaia: Aristotle’s Model Miss.
discussed, what do you think the video
that we watched belongs to? Yes
Shenaia?

Very good. Now I have a question. How Kaye: It all makes a difference because
can a public speaking, radios, telephones, through the information they provide we
televisions and all other linear can be knowledgeable, oriented, and safe.
communicating devices make a It can open our eyes and reflect on every
difference in the society? Yes, Kaye. word they say that as a receiver. As a
sender we can convey people on our
opinions and knowledge about what’s
happening in our society as well as the
whole world.
Excellent point.

D. Application
Now, I want to divide the class
into 3. Group 1 should make a
role-play about Aristotle’s Model,
Group 2, Shannon Weaver’s, and
Group 3, Berlo’s Model.

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Perform it with creativity and sincerity in
front.

But before we start, what will you Jenny: Behave and respect other groups.
do while we are having an
activity? Jenny

Very good, another one? Mary Mitzi: Cooperate and listen.

Okay work on your groups now.

E. Generalization

So what have you learned today Kim: I learned so much about linear
class? Yes Kim? communication model having its own
components and types.
Okay, what are the types of linear Cris: Aristotle’s model, Shannon
communication model then? Cris. Weaver’s Model, and Berlo’s SMCR
model.

Well done.

IV. Evaluation

Identify what type of linear

communication is showed
below.

1. “Good morning 1. Shannon Weaver’s Model

Philippines, you are
listening to your favorite
radio station 103.7 energy
F.M.”
2. “We are destroying the 2. Aristotle’s Model
planet piece by piece!” – a
message from an Orator
3. “Hi, this is Shierah. I’m 3. Shannon Weaver’s Model
busy right now, call again
later. Please leave a
message.”
V. Assignment
Make a speech about world
peace at least 3-5 minutes
long. Perform it on the next
meeting.
