I. Warm up

In your own words, how do you define skeleton? What is it made up of? What is the importance of it in
a body?

II. Meaningful vocabulary:

Osteon (Greek)

Os (Latin)

English words: osteology (骨科), ossification (骨化), osteoma (骨瘤).

Activity 1: By using the above three words, create a sentence each and say it to your tutor.

III. Functions of skeleton (Activity 2):

1. Bones a. the joint connecting a leg to the trunk of the body


骨头 将腿连接到身体躯干的关节

2. Bone marrow b. Pairs of curved bones, joint with spine


骨髓 双弯曲的骨头,脊柱关节
3. Skull c. Give shape & support to the body
头骨 塑造和支撑身体

4. Ribs d. bone structure which covers the brain of animal or human


肋骨 覆盖动物或人类大脑的骨骼结构

5. Hip joint e. Manufactures blood cells

Talk about the significance of any one of the above mentioned part of skeleton.
