The purpose of the mask is to show people that it is going really bad with the Amur leopard.
2. Explain your purpose. (E.g. If it is used to ‘hide’ then explain why hiding is necessary and what you hope to
accomplish by hiding) +/-100 words.
It is necessary because these animals are dying out. The Amur leopard, also known as the Siberian leopard, is
doing very badly. At a 2007 census, there were only 25 to 34 specimens left in the wild, of which only 6 were
females. To survive, at least 66 Amur leopards are needed, so the fate of the beast has already been
determined. Its habitat has been destroyed by humans, and the beast is (still) being hunted. A dead specimen
can make $ 37,000 for the fur, or as a trophy. When some animals such as bees die out this can be a big
problem for us. But also we have to stop killing animals because they are important in life.
3. Where did you get your inspiration from? Please post a picture and explain.
I searched for masks and then got a lot of pictures from animals and I wanted to do something with that, then I
saw a picture from a tiger and realized that the tiger was one of the animals that are dying out. When I was
searching I found out that this animal was also dying out, so I decided to make something with this animal.
4. What features of the face will be exaggerated and why? +/-100 words
The eyes and the mouth because with the eyes and the mouth I can show that this animal is dying out by
making it look unhappy. And when it looks sad the message is clearer.
Sadness
Flour, water, salt, a bowl, a spoon, aluminium foil, brushes, newspapers, paint, scissor and ribbon.
7. What elements should I add to symbolise and communicate the purpose and role of your character? (E.g.
Think about the meaning of colour; shapes, symbols that you might use.)
Tears and hearts as stains to show that this animal needs more love and attention.
On this picture you can see all the materials I used.
Step 1:
First I cut 4 equal pieces from aluminium foil and put them on
top of each other.
Step 2:
I putted one cup of flour in a bowl and added a little bit of salt.
I made sure there were no lumps left and I started adding
water little by little. When all the water was in and the lumps
were out the mixture looked like thin milk. After that I putted
the mixture on the cooker and warmed it up until it became a
little thick.
Step 4:
Step 5:
Step 6:
When my mask was dry I started decorating. I painted over the mask 3 times and after that dried I
added details like the mouth and the stains.
Step 7:
Step 8:
With white paint I made it look like the animal had tears in
his/here eyes and I added some dropping tears.
Step 9:
I made a little hole on both sides and took the ribbon through.
