4.2 EXPLANATION OF HOW TO DESCRIBE PLACE

DESCRIBING PLACES

Describing places need three steps called as generic structure. It consists of;

a. Introduction,

We usually call this part as opening of the text. In this part the writer writes
the short information about that place like the name of the place and the
location of that place. In this part the writer also tells that what is famous
about that place and also the general information.

b. Main body

Main body is the main part of the story that tells about that place. The main
purpose of this part is to tell about the information about that place where
started from general to the specific. Suppose for example when we tell about
one place we start to tell about the view of that place, the building or
architecture of that place, the weather of that place and also the activity that
we can do there.

c. Conclusion

In this part the writer tells that the opinion and also the felling of the writer
after the writer visit this place.
4.3 READING

This is the example of describing tourism object, please read it and identify it to
find out the generic structure of the text.

KUTA BEACH

Kuta Beach is a beautiful beach with white sand stretch 3 kilometers from
Seminyak Beach to Tuban area which is blessed by the great waves that is ideally
for surf adventures. Kuta Beach is located in Kuta Village, Kuta District, Badung
Regency and Bali Province – Indonesia. It is just a step from Denpasar Airport
which is 5 minutes away by driving a car. This beach is strategically situated in the
center of Bali’s tourism which is very easy to be accessed from any directions and
the other famous surf points just close from this beach such as Airport Reef, Kuta
Reef, Legian Beach and Seminyak Beach. This place is also close to the places of
interest in Bali that are many visited by tourist every day. This beach is the most
famous beach in Bali Island as tourist activities from foreign countries and
domestic. It is also an international tourist destination supported by the complete
public facilities such as hotels, bars, restaurants, night club, souvenir shops, best
shopping center, entertainments etc.  This beach is suitable as a place for play
around with family, relax, swim, and surf. This beach has good wave for surf
activities including surf lesson where the beginner surfer up to professional have
ever experienced. The beauty of this beach is complemented by the spectacular
sunrise that creates the romantic nuance that alluring every visitor.

This is a dialogue about tourist from Italy who his name is Andrea and it is the
first time he visit Bali, so he need a guide for his holiday and he meet with
Wayan!

Andrea : Hello, excuse me, I am Andrea. Do you speak English?

Wayan : Yes, I do. I’m Wayan. What can I do for you, Andrea?
Andrea : I am sorry for interrupt you. I am a tourist from Italy. I want to go around
and I think I need a partner. Do you want to be my guide?
Wayan : Yes, of course. I know this place very well. There’s no problem if I
accompany you while explaining many things of this beautiful place.

Andrea : That’s cool. Thank you so much. I need a guide only for a day, so how
much should I pay?
Wayan : You just have to spend twenty dollars
Andrea : Okay, no problem. Please give me your best, Wayan.
Wayan : Sure, I will do my best
Andrea : Thanks. So, what place that we are going to start?
Wayan : An hour later, we will arrive at Kuta beach. Have you ever heard about
this place?
Andrea : No, tell me
