ISU PULSE Drumline

Summer 2020 Video Assignment overview

Since Illinois State University has cancelled all on-campus meetings until at least August 1, the
PULSE Drumline will make progress on music through the summer by way of video submission
assignments. There will be two assignments due during the summer--one by the end of the day
on Friday, June 26, and one by the end of the day on Friday, July 17. The requirements for
June are below--July video assignments will be sent out at a later date. All music listed that is
not currently in your possession will be added to the drumline shared folder soon. An email will
go out to all members when the contents of the shared folder are updated. Here is a link to that
folder:

VIDEO GUIDELINES: Please upload your videos to YouTube with the privacy set to “Unlisted.”
Unlisted videos will not show up in search results, but are available to people who have the
URL. The URL will only be given to Drumline Director Dr. Stiers, Drumline Teaching Assistant
Jake Okrzesik, and your section leader(s). Make sure we can see your entire upper body and
the playing surface. You may play on a drum or practice pad, whichever is easiest. Bass
Drummers may play on a flat pad with mallets or snare sticks if that is easier. Snare drummers,
note that the ISU line plays with snares slightly tilted (~10 degrees).

CYMBALS: We realize you do not have part assignments yet (cymbal music at ISU is usually
split into 4 parts), you probably do not have cymbals at home to practice with, and you may not
know what cymbal techniques we use at ISU (many of you have not played cymbals at all
before, and that’s OK!). You will not have video requirements for June 26. We may have you do
something for July--I’ll keep you posted. Here are some basic videos to take a look at, courtesy
of BRMM Cymbal alum Ben Wyland:
