Topic: Taking care of Animals & Birds

 Set Example : Take care of stray dogs near your house by feeding them

biscuits. You can also take care of them by informing vetenary doctor in

case of illness of the animals.

 Put Bowls of Water: Keep bowls of water nearby places for stray animals,

especially during summer. It quenches the thirst of many animals and birds,

big and small.

 Feed the Birds: Spread food grains like rice etc. on your rooftops or open

balconies.

 Care for shelter : Find loving homes for abandoned and abused animals.

Pets bring joy to a family.

 Adopt an Animal: Do not buy your pet from a pet shop. Instead, adopt one

from an animal shelter or adoption center.

 Plant Trees: Plant trees and shrubs that provide a safe shelter for birds in

your neighborhood.
 Do not feed spoiled food: Give only fresh food to animals because feeding

spoiled food can be harmful for their health.

 Do not hurt animals: Never throw stones to the animals. It may hurt them.

 Donate : When you visit zoo pay the entry fee. Your donations help in

taking care of the animals in the zoo.

 Do not buy Animal Products : Do not buy things which are made from

animals or their parts. It will save our wildlife.

 Join to protect natural habitat: Protect natural homes of animals by

stopping cutting trees in the forest.

NUMBERS 100 AND UPTO 1000(Revision)

I. Greatest and Smallest number. :-- In the formation of the greatest


and the smallest number we arrange the numbers or digits in
ascending and descending order.

1. The procedure to form greatest number is as follows:

a) The smallest digit is placed at one’s place.

b) The next greater digit is placed at ten’s place.

c) The next greater digit is placed at the hundred’s place


and so on.

d) The greatest digit is placed at the highest place of the


number.

2. The smallest number is formed by following the reverse


procedure.

a) The greatest digit is placed at one’s place.

b) The next smaller digit at ten’s place and so on till all the
given digits are finished.

c) The smallest digit is placed at the highest place of the


number.

[Note: Whenever one of the given digit is 0, it is not


written at the extreme left for the smallest number. It is
written in the second place from the left.]

a) To get the greatest number, we arrange the digits in


descending order

7, 8, 5  8 > 7 > 5 So, the number is 875.


b) To get the smallest number, we arrange the digits in
ascending order

7, 8, 5  5 < 7 < 8 So, the number is 578.

Exercise:

From the greatest and the smallest numbers using the digits once
only:

II. Ascending order :-- When we arrange numbers from smaller to


bigger, it is ascending order.

Arrange the numbers in ascending order:--

1. 880, 808, 80, 818, 18

2. 599, 995, 955, 595, 559

3. 700, 669, 699, 799, 599

III. Abacus :-- Abacus is called counting frame used to perform


addition, subtraction, division or multiplication.

1. . Show the following numerals on an abacus and write the


number name:

IV. Short form :-- When we write a number using digits, the number
is said to be in short form.

V. Roman Numbers :-- The way we write numbers, using Hindu –


Arabic numerals, is not the only way to do so. Many civilizations used
other means to denote numbers. The Romans represented numbers
using the numerals I, V, X where I  1, V  5, X  10

VII. Even Number:-- If the number ends in 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 then it is


an even number.

e.g.: 134 is an even number because it ends in 4

2. Write the number of even numbers between

a) 111 - 125

b) 889 - 901

VIII. Successor :-- The number which comes immediately after a


particular number is called its successor. The successor of a whole
number is the number obtained by adding 1 to it.
e.g.: Successor of 0 is 1, of 1 is 2, of 2 is 3 and so on

b) 29 d) 309

IX. Predecessor :-- The number which comes just before a particular
number is called its predecessor. The predecessor of a whole number
is one less than the given number.

e.g.: Predecessor of 1 is 0, of 2 is 1, of 3 is 2 and so on.
