2. What is the number? If its hundreds place is 7, its tens place is one
less than 6 and its ones place is 0?

3. What is the number with its hundreds place 9, its tens place is two
less than 8 and its ones place is 4?

1.9 Arranging numbers

Ascending order

 It is an order of number from the smallest to the biggest number.

Example 1. Arrange the numbers in ascending order.

1.10 Successor of numbers

 A successor of a number is the number that is greater by 1 (one)

from the given number.
 For a whole number x, its successor is 𝑥 + 1.

Example

A. The successor of 8 is 9 = 8 + 1 = 9.
B. The successor of 84 is 85 = 84 + 1 = 85.
C. The success or of 99 is 100 = 99 + 1 = 100.
D. The successor of 22 is 23 = 22 + 1 = 23.
Note

- All whole numbers have successor.

Exercise

I. Write “True” if the statement is correct and “False” if it is

incorrect.

1. The successor of 0 is 1.
2. The successor of 80 is 90.

C.13 =
D. 49 =
E. 77 =
1.11 Predecessor of numbers

 Predecessor of a number is the number that is less by 1 (one)

from the given number.
 For a whole number 𝑥, its predecessor is 𝑥– 1
Example

A. The predecessor of 12 is 11. Because 12 – 1 = 11

B. The predecessor of 100 is 99. Because 100 – 1 = 99
C. The predecessor of 81 is 80. Because 81 – 1 = 80
D. The predecessor of 14 is 13. Because 14 – 1 = 13
Note
All whole numbers except 0 has predecessor.

Exercise

I. Write “True” if the statement is correct and “False” if it is incorrect.

1. The predecessor of 99 is 100.

2. The predecessor of 1 is 0.
3. For a whole number ‘z’, its predecessor is z + 1.
4. The predecessor of 19 is 18.
2. Find the predecessor of the following numbers.

A. 50 =

B. 77 =

C. 95 =

D. 17 =

E. 47 =
