Background:

BBC Media A ction is the independent international charity of the BBC which uses media to advance
development worldwide. To achieve this, we partner with civil society, local media and others to produce
creative programmes and content in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences, and to
strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure.

In India, BBC Media A ction has been using media and communications to improve health, resilience and rights
since 1999. W e are currently implementing major projects across India to improve urban sanitation outcomes
and understand the digital drivers of women’s economic outcomes.

BBC Media A ction is now embarking on a new project funded by the H&M Foundation, called PRIDE – a
Pathway to Respect, Identity, Dignity and Empowerment, where we will seek to shift the way general
populations in Bengaluru think about where their waste goes, and the role waste pickers play in the circular
economy, ensuring that others do not drown in their own waste. The project will also work to create a sense
of pride for waste pickers, in recognising and celebrating the part they play as critical contributors to both
society and the economy. The PRIDE project sits within a larger C ollective Impact Initiative, where other
partners will seek to address complementary outcomes to collectively improve the lives of waste pickers.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Head of Project, PRIDE, the Project O fficer, PRIDE, will be responsible for the day-to-day
operations for the project. The role requires an organised and structured person, a quick thinker with the
ability to multi-task and problem-solve. S/he will need to be a self-starter with the ability to juggle priorities
and maintain deadlines. The post will be based in Delhi or Bengaluru, with occasional national travel, where
necessary and feasible, given the current C ovid-19 pandemic.

The post holder will be expected to sign the BBC ’s conflict of interest declaration and keep it up to date.
S/he may from time-to-time be asked to take on extra responsibilities by the Head of Project, PRIDE.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

W orking to the Head of Project PRIDE, the Project O fficer PRIDE will be responsible for:

Project Management:
▪ Supporting the Head of Project PRIDE on developing, maintaining, updating and implementing the
project plan.
▪ Leading on all procurement for the project.
▪ Leading on knowledge management for the project, taking accountability for managing all
documentation and filing.
▪ Maintaining minutes of all meetings.
▪ Managing all travel and administrative logistics.
▪ C oordinating between various internal teams, aligning timelines, requirements and resources, on a
day-to-day basis.
▪ C oordinating with external partners, research consultants, other stakeholders and the donor.
▪ Supporting the Head of Project PRIDE in documenting project learnings, contributing to the
development of project reports, case studies, press releases, blogs and other editorial outputs.

Safeguarding
▪ Understanding and complying with the Safeguarding policy and the staff C ode of C onduct.
▪ Participating in relevant mandatory training on Safeguarding and Respect at Work.
▪ Reporting any Safeguarding concerns immediately, either to the C ountry Director, or using the
W histleblowing Policy.

Skills, knowledge and experience required:

▪ G raduate degree in management or social sciences


▪ Demonstrated experience in media and communications and/or social and behaviour change
communication
▪ Demonstrated project coordination experience
▪ Demonstrated experience of working with multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic environment
▪ Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Kannada speakers preferred.
▪ The ability to negotiate tactfully and effectively
▪ A bility to work on own initiative, capacity to juggle competing priorities and a busy programme of
work while working to an agreed strategy
▪ A n eye for detail and strong analytical skills.
▪ Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to core BBC values of impartiality, independence
and accuracy
