1 Course Navigation 2

The Course Home Page involves Course Navigation, the content area, and the Sidebar.

Course Navigation (1) menu includes links that help you get to specific locations in the course like
Modules, Assignments, Chat, etc.

The Sidebar (2) shows various action items in your course like Calendar, To-do list, Recent Feedback,
etc. Each item in the sidebar is associated with the course only, i.e. dates in the Course Calendar or
Assignments appearing in the To-do list. The sidebar is there to help you see what assignment you
need to do next and/or what feedback you’ve received from your educator.

Sidebar: To-do list


Shows up to seven items including quizzes or
assignments with due dates and all recent course
announcements.
Displays the name of a quiz / announcement /
4 assignment and the number of points + the due date
for assignments/quizzes (3).
3 Each item in the To-do list displays an icon to
differentiate between assignments, i.e. rocket ship
for quizzes, document icon for assignments (4), etc.
Once the due date for a quiz or assignment has
5 6 passed, item remain in the To-do list for four weeks.
If it contains more items than can be shown, you can
view all of them using the Show All link.
To access the submission area of the assignment (5),
click the name of assignment.
To remove a To-do item, click the remove icon (6).
Course Navigation: Modules

In the Course Navigation, click Modules.

Modules in this diploma unit are used to organize the course content by weeks. Each module, except
revision weeks, contains Learning Objectives and Reading, Quizzes, Group Assignments, Discussions
and Tasting Assignments (1).

Course Navigation: Assignments


In the Course Navigation, click Assignments to get a list of ALL assignments in the course.

Assignments in this course can be with or without due dates. If the assignment doesn’t have a due
date, it can be submitted anytime in the duration of the course but we recommend that you submit
within the week that it is allocated to ensure you get timely feedback from the educator and keep on
top of your studies. Assignments with a due date are open from the beginning of the course until the
due date. After the due date you will not be allowed to submit your research.

Assignments: Weekly Group Activity

Each week, you are asked to work in a group and


submit a research assignment. 2
Group Assignments have a Due date (2) and you
can find them under Course Navigation ->
Assignments -> Upcoming assignments or in your
To-do list since each of them has a due date. They
are open from the beginning of the course so you
can work ahead if you want to.

Each week you will be asked to assign yourself to


one of the created groups. To do so, please open
the group assignment you wish to start working
on, read the instructions and then click People (3).

In People page, click Groups (4) to get a list of all groups in the course.

Under Groups tab, find the groups belonging to the assignment (5), choose one and click Join (6) to
add yourself in the group.

Weekly Group Activity: Accessing Groups

To access the group you’ve just joined, you 7


can go either Course navigation -> People -
> Groups -> find the group and click Visit (7).

Or use the Global Navigation (8) menu and


click Groups (9). A list of your groups (10) should appear next

to the menu. Click the group name to open it. 10

Please note that only students that have added themselves


into at least one group can see the Groups in the Global
Navigation menu.

Using the Group Navigation


menu (11), you can contact
other members using Announcements or Discussions or start creating your research using Pages or
Collaborations.

Please feel free to try out all available options to find the one that is the most suitable for you and
other group members.
Course Navigation: Chat
Chat tool allows students and educators
to interact in real time.

It is available to all students in the course


and your educator can use the chat to
contact you when online.

Please note that you cannot delete chat 1 1


messages.

In the Course Navigation, click Chat (1).

When you open the Chat page, you


immediately join the chat. Chat discussion appears in the content window (2). To receive alerts for
new chat messages, click the New Message alerts button (3). Chat displays the number of users who
are online (4). To view a list of these users, click the arrow.

To send a chat message, enter your message in the chat window (5). To add an emoji to your
message, click the Emoji icon (6). Then click the Send button (7).
