Radio Requirements for Fishing Vessels of Class A, B, C.


(Greater than 8 m in length)

N.B. Fishing vessels class D and E: radio not required.


Fishing vessels less than 8 m: radio not required.

V.H.F. radio only acceptable if vessel operates within a 20 N.M. radius of an approved coastal
radio station.

H.F. radio required on all other vessels which operate out side a 20 N.M radius of an approved
coastal radio station .

Navigation Lights and Shapes


Navigation lights and shapes as per Collision Regulations.

Sound Signals
A vessel of 12 m or more in length shall be provided with a whistle and a bell.

A vessel of less than 12 m in length shall be provided with some means of making an efficient
sound signal as approved by the Authority.

Bells shall be made of corrosion-resistant material and designed to give a clear tone. The mouth of
the bell shall be not less than 300mm for vessels over 20 m in length and 200mm for vessels 12 m
and over but less than 20 m in length.

Vessels at Anchor: Vessels of 7 m and over when at anchor shall exhibit where it can best
be seen an all round white light or one black ball (day shape).

Vessels Aground: Vessels of 12 m and over when aground shall exhibit two all-round red
lights in a vertical line or three black balls (day shapes) in a vertical line.
