Chapter IV

RESULT AND DISCUSSION

It is necessary to analyze the data collected in order to test the hypothesis and answer the

research questions. As already indicated in the preceding chapter, data is interpreted in

descriptive form. This chapter comprises the analysis, presentation, and interpretation of the

findings through graphical and tabular forms resulting from this study. This chapter contains the

demographic profile of the respondents in terms of sex, age, language/s used at home, general

weighted average in Filipino related subject and strand. After identifying the demographic

profile of the respondents, next is finding the language proficiency level of the respondents that

will determine through a language proficiency test and will reflect the analysis of the language

proficiency level in Filipino of the respondents. This will also identify the macro-skill that the

respondents appear to be most proficiency of the respondents and lastly, will present the

significant difference to the language proficiency level of the respondents in each macro-skill

when they are grouped according to their demographic profile.

The analysis of the findings of the researcher are supported by statics for the further

explanation of the tables and figures presented in this chapter. Information from reviewed related

literature and studies are used by the researcher on the basis of the study.

Part I. Demographic Profile of the Respondents

This section includes the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of sex, age,

language/s used at home, general weighted average in Filipino related subjects and strand. The

following figures are presented together with their corresponding interpretations and related

literature and studies as basis of the gathered data.

The above figure showed the frequency-percentage distribution of the respondents in

terms of sex wherein 39 or 44% of the respondents are male while 50 or 60% of the respondents

are female. The frequency-percentage distribution of the respondents in terms of sex revealed

that the large number of the respondents are female.

This shows that female are fonder of using Filipino than male. This is because female,

who are most likely to use this Filipino is still considered as female and male were just influence

by their friends in using Filipino language. Another thing that contributes to the large number of

female respondents. Aside from this, this study also determines if there is a significant difference

among the language proficiency level of the respondents in each macro-skill between female and

male. Even if female are numerous than male, it will not affect the result for the study only

considers the mean language proficiency level and not individual proficiency level.

The figure presents the frequency-percentage distribution of the respondents in terms of

age wherein 35 or 39% of the respondents are 16-17 years old, 52 or 59% of the respondents are

18-19 years old and the remaining 2 or 2% of the respondents are in the age of 20 and above.

The frequency-percentage distribution of the respondents in term of age showed that the majority

of the respondents was 18-19 years old.

The age required to be enrolled in grade 12 is 18-19 years old, and since the number of

the respondents came from grade 12. That is the reason why majority of the respondents are 18-

19 years old.

The figure presents the frequency-percentage distribution of the respondents in terms of

language/s used at home wherein 84 or 94% of the respondents are used Filipino or Tagalog , 4

or 5% of the respondents are used Filipino & English and the remaining 1 or 1% of the

respondents are used Filipino &Kapampangan. The frequency-percentage distribution of the

respondents in term of age showed that the majority of the respondents was Filipino or Tagalog.

The fourth figure provides the frequency-percentage of the respondents in terms of their

general weighted average in Filipino related subjects. The highest percentage is 34 or 38%of the

respondents who got an average grade of 76-80% on their Filipino related subject. On the other

hand the lowest percentage is 4 or 5%of the respondents who got an average grade of71-75% on

their Filipino related subjects. It implies that the large number of respondents have an average

grade of 76-80% which falls under the Fairly Satisfactoryrating on the Learners Progress and

Achievement Report Card. With this result, Filipino could be one of the factors to contribute

with implication

The figure 5 provides the frequency-percentage of the respondents on terms of their

Strand. The highest percentage of the respondents are GAS-1 with 24 or 27% while the lowest

percentage of the respondents are EIM with 9 or 10%. The frequency-percentage distribution of

the respondents in terms of strand showed the majority of the respondents was GAS-1. Based on

the set criteria of the researchers and since the study used the purposive sampling method,

regardless of the grade level the researchers prioritize the respondents who could be affected by

Filipino Language.

Aside from this, this study also determines if there is a significant difference among the

language proficiency level of the respondents in each macro-skill between Grade 12

Strands/Track. Even if Gas-1 are numerous than other Strand/Track, it will not affect the result

for the study only considers the mean language proficiency level and not the individual

proficiency level.
Part II. Language Proficiency Level of the respondents in Filipino

The following tables and figures present the language proficiency level of respondents in

Filipino language.

From the responses gathered by the researcher in the survey, the table presented the

language proficiency level of the respondents in terms of sex wherein limitedly proficient. This

show that some of the respondents are not sufficient enough to say that the respondents are

proficient.The finding revealed that more of the respondents are find difficulties in Filipino

Related. The language proficiency level in female are more than male because more of the

respondents are female.

The table presented the result of the respondents on the survey given by the researcher.

This shows the language proficiency level which is limitedly proficient. The respondents almost

hit the language proficiency level needed to reach a range interval which is proficient. Based on

that result it implies that the respondents find difficulties in Filipino Related Subject. The table

showed that highest language proficiency level are from 18-19 because they are more equip in

Filipino related subject the other age interval.

In table 5, present that the Filipino &Kapangpangan is the lowest interval which is not

proficient. It is clearly showed that the respondent are not proficient while the highest interval

are taken from Filipino & English which is proficient. The Filipino and English provides a result

that needed in the study. It is enough to say that the respondents are proficient.

From table 5, indicates that the most of the proficient respondents are from 86-90% and

91 and above General Weighted average in Filipino related subject. And the remaining average

in Filipino related subject are limitedly proficient. It revealed that the 86-90 and 91 and above

are more equip in Filipino related subject because they motivated in performing well in school.

In table 6, presents that the highest language proficiency level are from GAS-1 and the

GAS-2, ABM, SMAW, EIM are limitedly proficient. It is clearly that the respondents from

GAS-1 confident to participate actively in discussion in Filipino Related Subject. The overall
language proficiency level is 26.87 which is limitedly proficient out of 89 respondents, which

showed that majority of the respondents. This shows that the respondents are fond and quite

proficient. The highest proficiency level that the respondents got 30.71 while the lowest is 20.71.
