Learning Activities for Topics 1 & 2

Hi! Please be mindful,  learning assessment will be based on the objectives below. You should finish Topics 1 & 2  by
Thursday (April 16) and  submit assignments and take quiz. Please engage our lesson through chat, well thought
reactions and questions related to lessons will be considered as recitation. This is your time to shine class.

Journal Entry # 1 Self Inventory


Due Monday, 20 April 2020, 12:00 AM

Time remaining: 4 days 5 hours

CHS 2 is a study of the New Testament as it relates to self and to society. In relation to self please take the self inventory
found in the link below. This should be the first entry in your journal which you will pass at the end of the course. This
self-inventory is also necessary for one of the  important reflection papers that will be one of the entries in your Journal:
"My Life's Purpose." 

Based on insights from from this self-inventory introduce yourself to the class. We will do this by using the Blue Button
on Thursday (April 16), or you may decide to record a short video of self introduction and upload it. Let us test the
capability of this Learning Management System.

Topics1 & 2: The World of the NT and The Jews Under the Romans

Hi! Each one you post the word that for you describes our situation today.

What are some of the things that affected you most as a result of ECQ? Not much really, now that we are not
allowed I sometimes feel like going out with no particular reason or purpose. Actually since March 13, I only
went out to get groceries and food supply for the family. We missed worshiping in church, but we were able to
do it at home. Health and food I realized are most important. I am fine for now with ECQ, but what if it lasts
for 6 months? Or it becomes the new normal? What will we do?
In the Intertestamental Period (period between the Old Testament and the New Testament) we see the Jews
victimized by the superpower nations around them: Persia, Greece, the Ptolemies of Egypt, the Seleucid rulers
of Syria and then finally the Romans.  The Jews were heavily oppressed. they were not free to practice their
faith. Their rights and dignity as a people were violated. Would you fight in defense of your country and
people, would you fight for food or for your faith as the Jews did?

 Read the material on Roman rule and the groups and movements that emerged in response to
the situation. What was the stand of each group in response to the Romans. Be ready to answer
a matching type quiz int his regard. To which of these groups would you belong? 
 After reading the assigned reading please take the quiz. The first Quiz is about the
Intertestamental Period. The focus of the second quiz in this topic are the groups and
movements that emerged in response to the situation  during the time of Jesus. 
 You can take the quizzes twice, your grade is based on average of the points you got from two
attempts.
 But first I would like to share with you a song. Instead of devotion just take time to think of the
significance of what Jesus has  done for us at the cross. Please play link below.

And read the 1st and 2nd chapters. We will discuss this via bigbluebutton by Friday (April 17).
