LEARNING

EPISODE
6

This learning episode un-

ravels the first activity given to
me by my cooperating teacher.
This gives a clear picture of the
steps I have followed and the
materials I need to prepare to
successfully implement my first
activity.

At the end of this activity I will be

able to:
 Plan my first activity/episode assigned
to me.
 Prepare my instructional materials.
 Perform my first activity well.
 Follow the instructions given by my co-
operating teacher.
 Consider and reflect on the assessment
of my cooperating teacher.

34
To do my episode well, I should be able to:

LISTEN 1. Listen well to the instructions of

my cooperating teacher.
2. Plan for the assigned episode. Do
PLAN
research if needed.

PREPARE 3. Prepare the instructional materi-

als.

PERFORM 4. Perform the assigned episodes

well.

To prepare for the first activity/episode, remember

the Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA); a project management
tool designed by W. Edwards Deming. It is also called the
Deming Cycle.
PLAN—Identify and analyze the
episode/problem.

DO—Develop and test potential

solutions/procedures to the epi-
sode.

CHECK—Analyze and measure

the episode in an informal way.

ACT—Implement the best solu-

tions/procedures.

THE DANGERS OF CIGARETTE SMOKING
THINGS TO DO
Prepare the references for the lesson to be discussed. Study the
necessary information about the topic and take note of the im-
portant concepts to be included in the visual aid. Strategize on
PLAN how to effectively and efficiently facilitate the lesson especially
with regards to the preparation of materials, series of questions
and teaching strategies to be used.
Make the lesson plan for the assigned topic. Let my cooperating teacher
check my prepared lesson plan for corrections, recommendations and im-
provement. Create activities which are helpful in delivering the lesson much
DO more easier, engaging and enjoyable like games, video presentations, etc.
Make a presentable visual aid for the lesson which is not only eye pleasing
but also readable and concise.

Check all necessary materials at least a day before the actual

teaching. Make sure that all materials are prepared well and

CHECK neatly and are on the interests and needs of the students. Also,
double check for the spelling of words on the instructional ma-
terials.

Execute the lesson plan on the actual teaching. Make sure to

follow the lesson plan as much as possible so that the lesson

ACT will be delivered outstandingly. Never forget to conduct an as-

sessment so that I can assess if my lesson is effective and the
students really learned the lesson.

The benefits I gained after utilizing the PDCA Cycle

are:
1. I was able to plan my lesson properly, effectively and
efficiently.
2. I was able to maximize the time in preparing my lesson.
3. I was able to strategize on my lesson especially the
teaching strategy that I will be using in delivering my
lesson.

5 4 3 2 1
1. Needs Improvement
2. Fair
3. Satisfactory
4. Very Satisfactory
5. Outstanding
I rated myself very satisfactory,
because even though I put all my effort on the
task assigned to me, I know that there are still
flaws and room for improvement.. Also teach-
ing strategies always vary that is why I believe
that I can still improve myself.
I think I can do better if I was able to
acquire more references about my topic and I
was given more time allotment for the discus-
sion to give more ideas and information about
the topic.
I learned that with PDCA Cycle, we can
carefully plan, prepare and execute the lesson
well. As teachers, it is very important for us to
be systematic and organize. With the use of
the PDCA, we will also be able to choose the
most appropriate teaching strategy to be used
especially considering the time that was given
to us to discuss our topic.
