SEMINAR-WORKSHOP ON VERMICOMPOSTING

Read and give a few syntheses on the following questions:

1. How can this method be useful in making rich fertilizers?

Vermicompost is described as an excellent soil, which make it the best fertilizer and more
eco-friendly as compared to chemical fertilizers. It is ideal organic manure for better growth
and yield of many plants. It can increase the production of crops and prevent them from
harmful pests without polluting the environment. And it is time for us to understand the
importance of organic to beat all hazards and save Mother Nature from massive destruction. It
is all organic which has no harm to human also and it does not need to be mixed with anything.
Through earthworms organic waste materials are broken down and produce nontoxic and
nutrient-rich material. Vermicomposting reduces the need for pesticides and the plant tends to
become healthier. Farmers don’t need to go buy those high prices fertilizers and rather they can
make it at home which is much more affordable.

2. How can you apply this process of composting to practical living?

You will never have to toss out banana peels, eggshells, and all kinds of valuable organic
matter which, once broken down, can go back into our garden beds or can be mixed in with the
soil in potted plants. Most fruit and vegetable scraps, even cardboard and newspaper can go in
worm bins and you will hardly notice the bin is there. Another benefit of this process is your
garbage will be lessen, all that can rot be put into your garden which makes the soil rich in
nutrients. You do not have to expend so much money because it doesn’t require you to buy
chemical fertilizers. All you just needed to do is hard work and it will end to satisfying result.
Vermicomposting is a simple process of composting, in which certain species of earthworms are
used to enhance the process of waste conversion and produce a better end-product. Always
find what you can help to improve the ecosystem and not just think on what you have
imagined.

3. Are there some risks in this method in terms of outcome of fertilizer’s effect
to plants nutrition and growth?

Vermicomposting is very ideal in germinating seeds that give plants a great start to life.
Vermicompost provides nutrients that all plants can benefit from. However, there are some
instances where castings are not ideal option and can harm plants with healthy soil if added.
But when managed correctly, you can enjoy the benefits of an odorless composting process
that can be added on soil.

It is true that vermicomposting is useful and beneficial but there is a possibility that
using it in your garden might not be the best decision. Vermicompost adds extra nutrients and
it can be a problem if your soil is already healthy because too many nutrients can be toxic,
depending on the specific nutrient. Too much compost can burn houseplants. Vermicomposting
also requires specific temperature, it needs to be kept in moderate temperatures because if it
gets too hot, the worms can dry out and die. Under the right conditions, you can use it with
almost any plant and a great way to deal with food waste.

4. What have you learned from this method?

Vermicomposting is really important for fast growing of plants and giving a rich, dark soil
that is made almost pure worm castings. Not only is it rich in nutrients but it’s also loaded with
the microorganisms that create and maintain healthy soil. The benefits of vermicomposting
include the improvement of soil structure and it provides nutrients to the soil, increases the
water holding ability of sandy soils. Certain species of earthworms are used in vermicomposting
to enhance the process of organic waste conversion and produce a better end-product. Your
waste will turn into something beneficial and you will not worry anymore for having loaded of
trash because it will end up on your garden. Using this method, you will save up a lot because
you don’t have to buy any more expensive fertilizers and you can do it on your own. There may
be some risks in making them but learning how to manage it correctly will be helpful. We must
also remember that using this method will reduce hazards and toxic from our nature.
