The events of the novel begin with the departure of Jean Valjean, after spending
nineteen years in prison; This was because he stole a loaf of bread, and he was finally
released, but his past will continue to haunt him, and in Degen, no one refused to
receive him even for one night, only Bishop Saint Monsignor Merrill welcomed him,
..sympathized with him and allowed him to stay overnight

The gian paid his host's hospitality by stealing his silver papers, and then he became
wanted by the police again, the bishop tried to protect his wrong guest by pretending
that the silverware was a gift, and he tried to convince them that Valjian promised him
.to repent after stealing another one

But Jean Valjian didn't really repent, so he began to steal his robberies, used to the
criminal way, and began to master stealth, traveled to Montreuil, and disguised under
the name of Madeleine, and began to establish a factory without knowing the truth
..about his matter

After that, Madeleine got acquainted with the pathetic girl Fantine, the only girl who
is looking for a job, and leaves her daughter to goalkeeper Thinarders and his wife; To
..take care of her and send her money for them

Madeleine pity this girl and her daughter, thennarders' financial demands increase day
after day, and deceives her that these requests are for her daughter, these demands
exhausted Fantin, and the difficulty of living and the many demands; Fantine fell ill
and seriously deteriorated her health, and to relieve her, Madeleine promised her to
..bring her daughter Cosette

But in this period, Madeleine was faced with serious problems, as an innocent man
who was stealing bread was arrested, and he was accused of being Jean Valjian, and
..after a night of painful moral struggle, Madeline decided to confess

In Aras, the trial headquarters, he confessed to himself and cleared the accused, and
after a few days Jaffer arrested him while he was sick for Fantin, this horrific scene
killed the young woman, that same night Valjian escaped, but was arrested again, and
..sent to Toulon, a military port
One day a sailor was to drown, Valjian threw himself on the basis of his rescue but he
did not get out of the sea, everyone believed that he drowned in the sea, and so he
.,managed to escape, where he went to Montfermeil where Thinarders lived

After burying his money in the jungle, he went to free Cosette from the abominable
tutelage of Thinarders, and pay him for it, as he entrusted himself with her care after
.,the death of her mother

Valjian found his refuge in the monastery, and worked there as a gardener named
Fuchlevent, and with the help of the man who had saved his life in the past, Valjian
..and Cosette spent several happy years isolating the monastery

Marius is seventeen years of age, Marius falls passionately in love with a beautiful
girl in the gardens of Luxembourg is Cosette, but he was too shy to make any bold
decision, the daughter of Thearder Ebonin loved Marius, but she knows that he loves
Cosette and her love is sealed, and she tried to help Marius in Reaching Cosette, to
..announce their love for each other

Marius goes to his grandfather Gelnormand, asks his permission to marry Cosette, and
when Marius returns to Cosette, he finds that she and Valjian are gone, sorrow over
.Marius, and decides to join his radical student friends, who started a political uprising

The uprising appears to be doomed from the start, but Marius and fellow students
nonetheless stand on their land, pledging to fight for freedom and democracy for the
.,last man

The students discover that Javier is in their ranks, and realize that he is a spy, linking
him and restricting him, and when the army launched his first attack against the
students, one of the shots would hit Marius but Ipponen threw herself in front of the
shotgun aimed at him; To save his life, Eponine dies in Marius's arms, after she
..reveals to her her love

Valjian learned about the army's attack on the students, and he went to save the life of
the man his daughter loved. The Valjian reached them, and found Javer, so he secretly
released him, and as the army broke into the students' area, he picked up the wounded
.,villain Marius and escaped through the sewers
When Valjian departed hours later, Javier arrested him immediately, then appealed to
Valjian Javier to allow him to take Marius for treatment before he died; Javier agreed,
and Javier felt a torment that tore it between his duty in his profession and the debt he
owed to Valjian to save his life, and eventually Javier decided to allow Valjian to go,
.,and he himself was thrown into the river where he drowned

Marius regained his health, his grandfather Gelnormand agreed to marry, and the
happy wedding took place, Valjian admitted his criminal past to Marius, Marius was
not aware that Valjian was the one who saved his life before, and at that time Marius
.tried to prevent Cosette from contacting Valjian; So as not to cause them problems

Valjian lived between loneliness and depression. Marius then learned from Thinarder
that Valjian was the one who saved his life, and Marius was ashamed of his act with
..Valigan and told Cosette of everything that had happened

The novel concludes with Marius and Cosette's rush to Valjian at the right time; To
end the novel with a happy ending by reuniting with his daughter, after which he dies,
.so the coming will be in peace

‫ فقط‬، ‫ وفي ديغن رفض أي أحد استقباله ولو لليلة واحدة‬، ‫ ولكن ماضيه سيظل يطارده‬، ‫فر َج عنه‬ُ
ِ ‫ أخيرًا أ‬،
. ‫ وعطف عليه وسمح له بالمبيت‬، ‫األسقف القديس مونسينور ميريل هو من رحب به‬

‫ حاول األسقف‬، ‫ وعندها أصبح مطلوبًا للشرطة مرة أخرى‬، ‫فالجيان سدد ضيافة مضيفه بسرقة أوراقه الفضية‬

‫خطير ‪ ،‬وللتخفيف عنها وعدها مادلين أن يجلب لها ابنتها كوزيت ‪.‬‬

‫ولكنه في هذه الفترة تع َّرض مادلين لمواجهة مشاكل خطيرة ‪ ،‬حيث أُلقي القبض على رجل بريء كان يسرق‬
‫الخبز ‪ ،‬فتم اتهامه بأنه جان فالجيان ‪ ،‬وبعد ليلة من الصراع األخالقي المؤلم ‪ ،‬قرر مادلين االعتراف ‪.‬‬

‫في أراس وهو مقر المحاكمة ‪ ،‬اعترف على نفسه وقام بتبرئة المتهم ‪ ،‬وبعد بضعة أيام اعتقله جافير عندما كان‬
‫يمرض فانتين ‪ ،‬هذا المشهد المروع قتل المرأة الشابة ‪ ،‬في نفس الليلة هرب فالجيان ‪ ،‬لكن تم القبض عليه مرة‬
‫أخرى ‪ ،‬وأرسل إلى تولون وهو ميناء عسكري ‪.‬‬

‫وذات يوم كان هناك بحا ًر ا سيغرق ‪ ،‬ألقى فالجيان بنفسه على أساس إنقاذه ولكنه لم يخرج من البحر ‪ ،‬اعتقد‬
‫الجميع أنه غرق في البحر ‪ ،‬وبذلك تمكن من الفرار ‪ ،‬حيث ذهب إلى مونتفرميل حيث يسكن ثينارديرز ‪.‬‬

‫وبعد دفن أمواله في الغابة ‪ ،‬ذهب ليحرر كوزيت من وصاية ثينارديرز البغيضة ‪ ،‬ويدفع له مقابل شرائها ‪ ،‬حيث‬
‫عهد على نفسه رعايتها بعد وفاة والدتها ‪.‬‬

‫وجد فالجيان ملجأه في الدير ‪ ،‬وعمل فيه كبستاني اسمه فوشليفنت ‪ ،‬وبمساعدة الرجل الذي كان قد أنقذ حياته في‬
‫الماضي ‪ ،‬قضى فالجيان وكوزيت سنوات سعيدة عدة في عزلة الدير ‪.‬‬

‫ماريوس هو ابن السابعة عشرة من العمر ‪ ،‬يسقط ماريوس بحماس في حب فتاة جميلة في حدائق لوكسمبورغ‬
‫هي كوزيت ‪ ،‬ولكنه كان خجواًل جدًا التخاذ أي قرار جريء ‪ ،‬ابنة ثيناردير إبونين كانت تحب ماريوس ‪ ،‬ولكنها‬
‫تعلم أنه يحب كوزيت فكتمت حبها ‪ ،‬وحاولت أن تساعد ماريوس فى الوصول لكوزيت ‪ ،‬ليعلنا حبهم لبعضهم‬
‫البعض ‪.‬‬

‫يذهب ماريوس إلى جده جيلنورماند ‪ ،‬ويطلب إذنه للزواج من كوزيت ‪ ،‬وعندما يعود ماريوس إلى كوزيت ‪،‬‬
‫يجدها قد اختفت هي وفالجيان ‪،‬فيسيطر الحزن على ماريوس ‪ ،‬ويقرر االنضمام إلى أصدقائه الطالب‬
‫الراديكاليين ‪ ،‬الذين بدؤوا انتفاضة سياسية ‪.‬‬

‫يبدو أن االنتفاضة محكوم عليها من البداية ‪ ،‬ولكن ماريوس وزمالئه الطالب على الرغم من ذلك يقفون على‬
‫أرضهم ‪ ،‬ويتعهدون بالقتال من أجل الحرية والديمقراطية آلخر رجل‪.‬‬

‫يكتشف الطالب أن جافير بين صفوفهم ‪ ،‬ويدركون أنه جاسوس ‪ ،‬فيربطونه ويقيدونه ‪ ،‬وعندما أطلق الجيش أول‬

‫علم فالجيان بأمر هجوم الجيش على الطالب ‪ ،‬وذهب إلنقاذ حياة الرجل الذى تحبه ابنته ‪ ،‬وصل إليهم فالجيان ‪،‬‬
‫ووجد لديهم جافير ‪ ،‬فأفرج عنه س ًرا ‪ ،‬وبينما يقتحم الجيش منطقة الطالب ‪ ،‬التقط فالجيان الجريح ماريوس‬
‫وهرب به من خالل المجاري ‪.‬‬
 ‫وعندما خرج فالجيان بعد ساعات ‪ ،‬عتقله جافير فو ًرا ‪ ،‬عندها ناشد فالجيان جافير السماح له بأخذ ماريوس‬
‫للعالج قبل أن يموت ؛ فوافق جافير ‪ ،‬شعر جافير بعذاب مزقه بين واجبه في مهنته والدين الذي يدين‡ به لفالجيان‬
‫إلنقاذ حياته ‪ ،‬وفي نهاية المطاف قرر جافير أن يتيح لفالجيان الذهاب ‪ ،‬وألقي هو بنفسه في النهر حيث غرق ‪.‬‬

‫ماريوس استعاد صحته ‪ ،‬ووافق جده جيلنورماند على الزواج ‪ ،‬وت َّم حفل الزفاف السعيد ‪ ،‬اعترف فالجيان‬
‫بماضيه الجنائي لـ ماريوس ‪ ،‬ولم يكن ماريوس على علم بأن فالجيان هو الذي أنقذ حياته من قبل ‪ ،‬وفي ذلك‬
‫الوقت حاول ماريوس منع كوزيت من االتصال بفالجيان ؛ حتى ال يتسبب لهم بالمشاكل ‪.‬‬

‫عاش فالجيان بين الوحدة واالكتئاب ‪ ،‬علم ماريوس بعد ذلك من ثيناردير أن فالجيان هو من أنقذ حياته ‪ ،‬فخجل‬
‫ماريوس من فعله مع فاليجان وأخبر كوزيت بكل ما حدث ‪.‬‬

‫وتختتم الرواية بإندفاع ماريوس وكوزيت إلى فالجيان في الوقت المناسب ؛ لينهيا الرواية نهاية سعيدة بلم الشمل‬
‫مع ابنته ‪ ،‬وبعدها يموت فالجيان في سالم ‪.‬‬
