Journal 5: Week 5 (June 5, 2017-June 9, 2017)

The fifth week of my internship at Banglalink Digital Communications Ltd happened to be the longest
and most hectic of them all as I had to work for three of the departments in this week, including Friday,
June 9, 2017. My work for the week was carved up under three different supervisors on three
completely different projects.

Work Done:

The first day of the week started with working on the project of the Corporate and Regulatory Affairs
(CORA) department’s signal-tower name conversion related to the West Zone Power Distribution Ltd
(WZPDL). As mentioned in the previous journals, the requirements for this project specifies to work with
a set of confidential data. In the preceding weeks I was assigned with the data set of the month of
February and in this week I was provided with the information of March-April to work with. The
consumer data set that was de-cluttered previously according to the six districts, had to be used to
match with the provided consumer information along with the main compiled consumer data
spreadsheet and the previously de-cluttered one to make sure that every data gets recorded. The
remained unmatched spreadsheet data had to be again re-arranged bestowing to the consumer
numbers and make a spreadsheet. The prepared data was then instructed to be interpreted and
elaborated to make up a consumer analysis report which was then sent to the HR department to match
with each of the employee who had worked with specific consumer information set and create a
database regarding it.

From the third day of the week I was assigned to work with the Human Resource department for 10
days for a project named “GO Live” where the team plans to launch an internal website for which all the
necessary information related to each of the employee working in Banglalink Digital Communications
Ltd till date needs to be recorded. It would be fair to mention that there are approximately a total
number of twelve hundred employee currently working in the company, each of them having over
hundred and fifty information. As the launching date of the website is knocking at the door, we had to
work on the weekends as well for meeting the deadline.

Along with the works mentioned, I was also told to work with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
team for the project of “IT Incubator” where Banglalink is determined to aid as many potential
entrepreneurs as possible with their startups. For this purpose, Banglalink is required to go through a lot
of procedures where the company needs to comply with a certain number of article and journal writing,
where my role comes in. I was briefed with the actual purpose and importance of the project along with
the responsibilities that I will be having as a coordinator and a writer.

Learnings:

In this entire week span, I had the opportunity of working with some core areas of HR department,
which is my major subject. I came to understand how employee information is actually stored and what
type of information is needed to create a proper employee profile. Also I was fortunate enough to
acquire a proper view of recruitment procedures and policies for a telecommunication company while
working in this project.

In addition to this, while working in the CSR project, I learnt how a company is can actually derive
revenue from even a social cause. Also I was taught the structure of lettering a formal write up which
will be published for a massive outreach as a part of the project.
