Comparative Adjectives
We use Comparatives to compare two things or two people.
Rules to form Comparatives
Rules for Comparatives
1. One syllable adjective ending in a silent “e”, add “r”.

nice - nicer

cute - cuter

2. One syllable adjective ending in consonant + vowel +


consonant, double the last consonant and add “er”.

big - bigger

hot - hotter

3. An adjective ending in “y”, remove “y” and change it to “ier”.

4. Two or more syllable adjectives, add “more” before them.
